Good: Cheap and cheerful
Bad: Lack of apps.... The need for a NOW TV account for it to work....
Comment: To be honest I own a ROKU which is what the NOW TV box is based on..... That has the option to use Netflix and Love film as well as NOW TV.... However the cost is about £50 compared to the £9.99 that Sky want....
As a cheap solution to access BBC iPlayer on a second TV it's great but the monthly cost is quite high for just films IMO.Plus the extras like entertainment and sport are a separate cost on top. If you don't have Sky and can't get multi-room.. Get the proper ROKU instead it's worth the extra cost
Good: Adds more potential to using my HD ready TV and is intuitive to use
Bad: For the price, there's nothing bad about it
Comment: The instructions are humerous and written for non techies like me. The NOWTV box worked first time. When I had checked that it worked properly and that the picture quality was good I went ahead and subscribed to the free movies for 30 days. I am impressed by the selection of films on offer and may decide to subscribe for a month occasionally in the future. This is a very good deal, give it a try as a cheap way of accessing to smart TV.
Bad: Could do with more channels
Comment: This is a good way to get something from sky without paying loads of cash and you can always add more if you are prepared to pay extra.all in all we are very pleased in that we do not have to buy a smart tv.
Bad: Lack of apps
Comment: I bought the NOW TV box as we do not have an aerial in our bedroom and £10 seemed to be the cheapest way to add TV upstairs.
The Sky News app does stream Sky News live despite comments suggesting otherwise. No issues for me on streaming quality although Demand 5 content not as extensive as YouView.
All in all well worth £10!
Good: Works very well and is incredibly cheap
Bad: no problems so far
Comment: I refuse to pay for a TV service because I don't think it's good value for money, but I do enjoy movies. I paid £9.99, including shipping, for the Now box and received it within three days. It was incredibly easy to set up, and I'm now enjoying a month free of Sky Movies. As it's the summer holidays, the £10 charge has paid for itself considering the number of movies my family has watched when even renting from the library costs £3 each and actually going to the cinema will cost a whopping £30 for all of us. We've not had problems some users mentioned with streaming, but my wireless internet connection is quite reliable. I've not decided if I want to continue with the sky movie subscription after the free month because we don't watch as much TV during term time, but because there is no contract, I could choose to at any time.
Bad: It's form Sky
Comment: £10 a day for a "low cost" product?!?! WTF?!
WHERE CAN I SIGN UP FOR ONE?!
(sense the sarcasm!!)
Bad: missing features
Comment: For GBP 9.99 it may seem a bargain and it is definitely the cheapest iPlayer out there! But reviews are misleading since: Demand 5 wasn't working for me, I suppose it is still a Beta; Sky News and BBC News are not live feeds (like many reviewers that don't even try the product seem to say) but simply video clips.
Many people complain about the missing ITV and 4oD players, this is not for Sky/NowTV to provide us with. But Demand 5 should be working and the news channel should be such!
Good: Check IPTV
Bad: Sky Sports charge
Comment: £10/day for Sky sports - are they off their rockers ??
99p/day seems more like it.
With low cost broadband and one of these, a good entry level iPlayer for your granny.
Good: Inexpensive access to a range of content
Bad: No live iplayer, other live UK channels
Comment: Not sure I agree with you about the quality of the streams for movies. They aren't 1080, granted but certainly far better than SD in my opinion.
We're running a VM connection at 60mb so it may that your connection is playing a part in the lower quality you experience?
Digging around in the hidden menus, the box is configured to auto detect the bitrate it should use. Could always try playing around with that.
For me, this box for a tenner - including delivery is a bargain.
I note that the response times for all apps including iplayer are notably quicker than our tivo...
Comment: The review states that it only works in the UK. Would it work outside the UK using a UK proxy or VPN identity?
