Good: good picture quality with high contrast ratio to display perfect dark scenes.

Bad: I can't think of one right now.

Comment: Outstanding price and performance. This TV offers 1080p resolution perfect for watching Blu-ray movie and gaming. Sony LCD is simply delightful. I recommend you to check out http://www.squidoo.com/best-hdtv for information on best price for the best TV to buy this year.

Good: The only thing l liked was the free 5year guarantee so l can get it fixed again and again

Bad: Thats easy the fact that l have got to get it fixed again and again

Comment: When l got the tv l was excited but that frustration because l thought the connection side of things turned out to be poor the hype surrounding 1080p and hdmi is very poor connected to this product not only that with sony moving to spain its products have gone down in standard along way.l have had this unit for 8 months l got it back on the 4th april after having 2 feed boards replaced l have got the same fault again so another 3 weeks without the unit so rather sony to start from scratch with a new unit they will replace the boards again and again what a way not to make money.Sony stinks.

Good: For the price this telly gives the best pictures across the spectrum

Bad: What's not to like??

Comment: After studying form for months. I went to specialist and high street shops and looked at the TV's with Sky, freeview, HD DVD and Blu ray. I wanted a large, but not too large screen, but my main objective was to get a great picture and decent connectivity and future proofing. This TV gave me all of that. People gasp when they see Blu Ray running on it and even Sky HD causes wow's!

I just love it and at £800 it was a real steal

Good: The picture on HD is just like looking through a window

Bad: Not a lot

Comment: I bought this tv after reading all the info I could on the net and in mags. I then went to see it and had it put through its paces at a specialist shop. For the price it is just unbeatable. In fact I didn't see one TV that could compete. I will be surprised if it gets knocked off the top spot at CNET reviews anytime soon!

Good: PAL images through HDMI

Bad: Some backlight clouding in low light

Comment: I bought this TV some months back now, and still love it. There are a couple of weaknesses but it's strengths more than compensate.
The truly astounding thing is how good standard definition material is. When using the in-built digital tuner, the image is stable and vibrant and really does make the best use of the source.
This was a particular concern for me as although I wanted a 'future-proof' TV, I had no immediate requirement to run high-def material through it, so a PAL image on a 1080p screen had dodgy definition written all over it.
The truth is though, Sony's engineers have done an admirable job with this set as it really isn't so bad at all. Plug in an HDMI DVD player (I have the RDR-HXD860 connected with QED Qunex-P), and you'll be seeing some of the best standard definition images available (let the TV do the upscaling).
I can't wait to pipe some Full-HD material into it, but more than happy with PAL DVD for the timebeing.
Shortfalls are that the set is very tweakable. In fact too tweakable, and perhaps some of the more important options should be enabled out of the factory. The power save setting is one that can be used to improve the contrast without having to up the backlight or contrast setting (thus reducing the backlight cloud issue), as with the gamma setting.
Persevere though and you'll obtain a remarkable picture - try using one of the THX optimizers found on the Lucasfilm or Pixar DVDs.
Sound is also a little weak in that it hardly comes close to presenting something that matches such a fine image. It's more than ok for standard viewing though, and likelihood is you'll be pairing this up to a home cinema system anyway.
Overall then, if you're in the market for a large TV and have £1200 then there really is no contest.

Good: The picture

Bad: People with no Hi Def slagging it off

Comment: It is extremely annoying to see people using standard TV sources slagging the picture quality off. Let them try watching Hotel Babylon, Planet Earth or Sky HD football in real HD and they would be gobsmacked. Personally, it was far and away the best picture I saw running in the shops, and I looked at a lot! Great picture, good sound, not too massive sizewise, loads of connectivity and looks damn sexy too!

Good: HD picture quality and colour rendition

Bad: Standard def still not as good as it should be.

Comment: Miles better than my Sony KDL-V32A12U. At last blacks are proper blacks. HD picture quality is so sharp and colours so vibrant (without being unreal). The best I've seen to date.
The detail you can make out in Star Wars - Return of the Sith is unbelievable. The sound is a major improvement over my other Sony though the bass could be better (nothing a home surround system can't fix).

Only negative is the standard def, it has improved but still not where it should be. Then again every HD TV I've seen has this problem and this Sony is better than most in this department.

Overall, I'm extremely happy with this TV, it turned out to be even better than I expected, and it was cheaper than my 32"!

Good: Fantastic picture and sound, looks brilliant, great price off the net

Bad: Absolutely nothing

Comment: Bought this from the internet as it was a great price. Stand took a while to fix (a bit fiddly) but after that, I had it set up and showing Sky+ within minutes. Picture was perfect straight from the box but did a few tweaks and now it's even better. I have a Sony Upscaling DVD and Standard Def DVDs through the HDMI input are simply stunning. In fact I have found that most Standard Def from Sky is very good and I'm now wondering whether it's worth going to Sky HD in the near future.

Overall an outstanding TV with absolutely no faults or vices. It's worth getting a power and picture stabiliser box to get really fabulous viewing.

Good: Great picture and sound

Bad: White patches on dark pictures

Comment: It is difficult to give an expert review as I have just upgraded from an old CRT TV that had terrible sound and an even worse picture… so compared against that this TV is incredible. It has a great picture, great sound, looks really nice without being too imposing in the room (40 inch is ideal for my room size).

However, the screen does show light/white patches when the background/picture is very dark. On completely black screens there are a number of faint white patches around the sides of the screen. I have tried changing the settings but it is not possible to get rid of it. I have learnt that this is a fault with all or at least a lot of this model.

Still a great improvement on what I had… but not perfect.
