Good: Simple - the style is near perfect!

Bad: Remote control, otherwise nothing

Comment: Having looked at nearly all LCD TVs over the past month the Samsung stood out from the rest in picture quality - yes it even beats Sony - by a mile. It does everything that I will ever want. I am still trying to find a fault with it. Having read all the other reviews, what planet are some people on?! Digital tuning is one of the fastest out there. In my view Samsung have got it right for once. I am still looking for a fault with it! One of the best!

Good: Design, inbuilt Freeview, HD

Bad: Some images don't look great, and can look too bright or too dark on different programmes

Comment: This TV is a good TV for its price, but I've had it a week now and I still can't seem to get all of the settings how I would like them. The screen is either too bright, or too dark and this changes depending on what programme I'm watching! I will be watching one programme and I think it looks great, I then turn over and it can look too dark or bright and I have to adjust the settings once again! Other than that, the games play great on there, playing DVDs looks fine as well, Freeview looks really good on certain programmes.

Good: Great picture quality

Bad: Digital channels get stuck, or don't display at all

Comment: Remote control could be better designed and some settings are only available through the menu. One of the scart sockets is not working properly and causing diagonal lines on the screen. The TV doesn't have a proper switch to turn it completely off - it's always on standby.

Because of a very poor digital tuner I would not recommend this TV at all. Having read some other reviews, I know this is a very common problem with Samsung LE TVs.
Will be taking my one back.

Good: Design

Bad: Everything else

Comment: I bought this TV just for the HD Xbox 360 gaming, and it's blurry and there's a lot of ghosting on the screen, no matter what settings you have it on, 720p or 1080i. I plugged it in to my Sky Digital box to see what that was like and it's exactly the same, it has an awful picture on most channels and is very pixellated and just nasty looking. I even tried the trick of turning off the dynamic dimming option which apperently gets rid of this problem and it's still the same. The TV we use to watch Sky on is a 3 year old Sony Wega 44-inch projection and that picture blows this LCD away. If you want this TV for the HD I would avoid this LCD or any LCD for that matter, because they are not as good as some reviews say they are. If I were you, I'd get an HD Ready 1080p plasma and that is the best picture money can buy. Plasmas are more expensive than LCDs and the reason for that is that any LCD does not come anywhere near plasma picture performance. I read a lot of reviews prior to purchasing this product and was convinced that this was what I wanted, but I was wrong. To sum up my review, do not buy this set, you will not be happy at all with this product, go for a plasma.

Good: Ease of setup, use and the fact it self updates software

Bad: Sometimes the lag between pressing a remote button and the actual command execution is too long

Comment: The value for the money is fantastic as the picture is excellent (I have no trouble using Scart). Could be another HDMI input or two but for the price, I think I got enough to be happy.

Good: Great TV so long as you don't play movies using Scart

Bad: My TV has the same flickering problem as Ron Ting's

Comment: Samsung should have replaced the TV and not tried to fix it, it has been 2 1/2 months and it's still faulty. The flickering only happens on Scart input so the rest of the TV is great...
If you don't want to use Scart then this is a good TV, otherwise stay away.

Good: High spec - low price, superb picture quality, great HD and SD receiver , good support for next gen HD gaming (Xbox 360), good looking and feature packed.

Bad: It only comes in black!

Comment: A fantastic HD TV, easily better quality than all the others in a similar price range. Outclasses many more expensive LCD and plasma screens. It looks great and although the speakers are functional at least they don't stick out like a pair of big ears, unlike most LCD and plasma screens. It has all the connectors you need, albeit one of each, but switch boxes are bound to be available when you need extra connectivity. It is very easy to set up and find suitable picture and sound options that optimise the experience.
Digital inputs such as HD Sky, HD DVD and HD gaming look absolutely fantastic. Don't judge the screen in a store that has a demo running from an old VCR over an RF connector, once you see proper HD content you will be amazed at the quality achieved by this set.
We are very happy with the allround quality and look of this brilliantly priced LCD screen. I don't think there is a better set at this price made by anyone else.
Going from a SD CRT to this HD Samsung 32" R73 model is like going from black and white to colour - it really makes a difference that once you have experienced it you won't want to revert back!

Good: Cosmetical looks good, impressive specs....see what I don't like

Bad: Glossy body makes dust look prominent, only 1 HDMI input

Comment: This is more for the 40" version of the TV, which is the one I have. It has been about 5 weeks since I purchased my Samsung R71 and it has been at home for less than 1 week. Reason being, the 1st unit, there was a hum coming from the unit. Its a noise you'd hear from the power unit. So I had the unit changed... with difficulty, so that's a minus point for Samsung's customer warranty claim procedure. Then the replacement unit came and I start to notice when watching DVD, the screen flickers as if the unit has a brightness sensor on it, which R7 doesnt (the predecessor R5 has it). The flicker occurs quite frequently throughout any movies and it was tested with different cables and players and also in all the 4 different picture modes. Results were the same. So that went back to the service department, apparently it's a known problem which Samsung has a fix for it but it has to be done from the service menu (which you and I are not supposed to tweak). And the TV came back but the only thing the 'patch' fixed was that when watching DVD, you can only use 'Movie' mode, hence I deem the problem not fixed. Also the patch sort of distorted the picture when I play PS2 on the TV. So the TV is scheduled to go back to the dealer again. You'd have expected that problems like this would have been eliminated since this is supposedly the 7th generation Samsung LCD TV. I'd welcome if Samsung can contact me about this and suggest some other solutions.

Good: Picture, high definition, contrast and image brightness, good colour performance

Bad: Sound, only one HDMI input, non-RGB Scart picture quality.

Comment: I have had this TV for two weeks now, and I can truthfully say I'm very happy with it. After viewing each screen again and again with the right setups I eventually decided to go for this Samsung.
Picture quality is very impressive, and at nearly half the price it stacks up very very well againgst the bigger brand names such as Sony. Standard Freeview and Sky picture quality is handled very well, however I wouldn't recomend using the presets. Movie mode tweaked a little to your own settings gives better results. I found that external sources like Freeview and Sky boxes look much better on RGB scart and I would certainly recomend using this input insted. However, there is no RGB setting for the built-in picture, giving a less defined and over colourful image similar to the Editor's review.
DVD looks much better on S-Video than AV2 Scart, and HDMI upscaled DVD looks even better!
The screen does suffer a little from motion blur, however this is usually the case on poor quality Freeview/Sky channels.
Sound can be a little weak, and suffers mainly from the lack of bass. A home cinema setup via the TV's optical out is a vast improvement.
Overal, I'm happy with my buy, it is still an LCD, and still suffers from LCD problems (haven't yet seen an LCD that doesn't) -- blacks are very good, but will never achieve the depth a CRT TV would. All in all a good buy, and at half the price of a Sony, the difference in picture quality is minimal.
