Good: I don't like design faults, so nothing
Bad: Products with design faults, then they ask you to pay for their mistake
Comment: I was unlucky enough to have purchased a Philips tv and my advice is buy another make. By the time I noticed the green line at the top of the screen design fault, the guarantee had expired. Naturally I contacted Philips to ask what they were going to do to fix this faulty product I had been sold and to my astonishment they weren't prepared to do anything. I'm afraid Philips are liars, they said that the fault wasn't there from the start (although hundreds of online reviews complaining about the "green line fault" beg to differ). They said I would have to pay £240+ to have an engineer repair it. OK, so I'm paying nearly half the cost of the tv to fix a fault that you didn't fix during production, and what's more you offer firmware to fix it if you are lucky enough to have USB feature, which of course I wasn't. When a company offers firmware to fix a fault, it's because they have made a mistake, so in effect I am being made to pay for their mistake. Looking around on internet review web sites I was quite saddened to find other people like me who had been ripped off by Philips in a similar way. Just out of interest, my friend once bought a Philips dvd recorder that had a design fault which meant it wouldn't let the user leave the menu, rendering it useless. Luckily enough he was able to return it to his local Asda, unlucky for me I had to deal with Philips who show only contempt towards their customers. The reason I mentioned that incident about my friend was because Philips' argument was that all their products are tested and never leave production with any faults, quite a ridiculous claim, and proven to be untrue. Once again I urge you not to buy Philips products to save you any grief which might and probably will occur. Thank you.

Good: Ambilight
Bad: When there is a lot of dark colours the picture is bad
Comment: After 10 mnts the tv developed a fault. Back and white lines appeared. Had to be returned for repair. report came back with venetian blind effect/horizontal bars. Tv has just been returned and I still can watch it because Philips forgot to return the 4xMounting wheels. Beware of the fault!.

Good: Ambilight and sound
Bad: Lousy picture - dreadful blacks, poor motion pixelation etc
Comment: Bought the TV in Jan, loved the sleek design and the ambilight, but neither of these features make up for the poor picture quality.
Philips boast that this TV has pixel plus 3 and all the latest technology to produce a brilliant pictue, well I also have an old Toshiba wlt 56 37-inch LCD and the picture on that is far better than this. Come on Philips pull your finger out and sort this problem out.

Good: Style
Bad: Backlight system is fatally flawed
Comment: I bought one of these (Philips 37PF9731D/10) sets 10 weeks ago. Initially it was ok, although it was always useless at displaying blacks - but you get used to that flaw.
However, over the last week or so, the backlight has failed. This means that there are light & dark horizontal bands across the screen and a large dark patch in the centre at the bottom. On some "busy" images you can get away without noticing this, but if you watch football or anything with large areas of the same colour (ie a football pitch or any mainly light or dark screens) this is really obtrusive.
My supplier does not want to know, despite the fact that legally my purchase was from them, not Philips (UK-Sale of Goods Act).
Philips just shunted me across to their third-party returns/repair outfit, Anovo. This means the TV must be returned to Manchester. Therefore I will be without a TV for a significant period of time.
I cannot stress enough, do not buy one of these. When I asked the repair centre (Anovo) why they have not issued a general recall I was told "We don't know, they are useless. I would not buy one". And that is a verbatim quote.
Follow the advice of Anovo (the official Philips repair company), do not buy this set.

Good: Everthing
Bad: Faulty backlight
Comment: A TV that makes you smile every time you watch it.
XBOX 360 rocks on this TV.
It has one major flaw - Backlight issues that cast a big shadow on Philips & the TV itself.
Apparently: 'Not Repairable or Replacable as Every 37" panel has the same fault'?
My TV is being refunded.
I would buy another tomorrow but not until the backlight issue has been resolved.
What do I replace it with?
Nothing I have seen comes close to this TV.
I plan to sit on the money for 6 months and see how Philips deal with this problem.
or await a 3rd generation super TV
;-)

Good: Picture quality in high def (before the back-light issues)
Bad: Philips customer service. Very poor
Comment: This would be a great TV apart from the backlight issues, which Philips are hopefully sorting out...

Good: Ambilight
Bad: Picture flaws
Comment: After 8 weeks this TV developed dark horizontal bands and a dark area in the middle of the screen - it has been away to repair but this did not fix the problem - it is back with the repairers but I don't expect success - best to stay away from this TV until these problems are fixed.

Good: Functions
Bad: LCD backlight failure on the screen after 6 weeks is commonplace
Comment: Philips have a major problem with this set: the LCD screen backlight goes wrong after 6 - 8 weeks. Horizontal black lines appear, plus a large black patch in the centre is visible on the blue screen and on a light or white picture. Come on Philips, you know you have a major problem with this model. I am getting a refund.

Good: The image quality when I bought it, but not now. The features.
Bad: The unreliability of the backlighting.
Comment: At the beginning I was very satisfied with this TV set. But 2 months later, when I switch it on, the screen looks dark and we can see horizontal dark areas going from one side to the other. The cause of that is the backlighting is not uniform. You might think my set should go to repair. Yes, but the problem is that I'm not alone. I want to wait until Philips solve this reliability problem before sending it to repair.

Good: Quality of picture and the overall finish
Bad: No complaints
Comment: I recently upgraded from a 32-inch Samsung LCD; I was expecting a larger picture to be of worse quality, but I was very pleasantly surprised. The picture on this TV is fantastic and it looks very smart in my living room. Very chuffed and recommend this wholeheartedly.
