Bad: Everything but mainly doesnt work
Comment: So so so bad, in every way.
Had a sky+ box which is almost perfect. Now had to move to virgin and cant wait to escape. Firstly the tivo box will not accept signals from my remote till it has warmed up for approx 15 mins. Even then is clunky and low and laggy as hell. The menus are overly complicated, slow and just useless. Most days i want to throw it out the window. Iplayer app is rubbish, keeps crashing and very slow, pretty much like a first edition android phone
Good: Has a lot of storage
Bad: It's my 2nd box and it freezes regularly. I don't rate it
Comment: This is my 2nd box and neither perform that well with constant freezing. If you don't use a facility for a while, it again does not perform. I would not recommend it. I had the ordinary V+ box which was much better.
Good: Dunno yet
Comment: I'm another one who replaced the V+ box with the Tivo, shoved the V+ upstairs and spend most of my telly time in bed.
What I HATE so far. My grandsons click record on a programme and I go see if there's a movie recorded and find they have hundreds of episodes of whatever it is they watch. And I can't find anything worthwhile because there are so many repeats of their stuff . Probably ten years worth of disney channel. Have you ever tried to just delete one thing? That takes about two minutes. Back and forward and back and forward. It would take forever to delete it all.
That's another thing - the BACK button. Can't remember where it is yet but it doesn't do what it did on the old V+. I can navigate the V+ remote in the dark.
If I leave a programme I'm watching for a couple of minutes and want to see what I've missed, I click the rewind button and it leaps back to the start. Then forward, then back. It's rubbish.
Do you think Virgin would take this away and give me another V+?
Good: capacity only
Bad: small programme listings cumbersome usage less useful than v+
Comment: I was offered it as an upgrade, I never saw the point of it from promotions, but it didn't cost much more .Its disappointing because some of the versatility of v+ are missing. In place is over emphasis of the obvious, and duplication of the unnecessary .What abject plonker ok,d this electronic boner. I contacted v media asking for v+ back, they say it isn't possible. Is there anyone out there who likes their box from another provider.
Good: Big hard drive, auto fastforward and rewind
Bad: Everything else
Comment: I absolutely have to complain about this box somewhere!
I accidentally clicked the star rating bit, and cant reset it to zero...
It's ridiculously bad.
The remote is an awkward size and shape, slippery material, unevenly wieghted, the buttons you commonly use are at the top, nearly out of reach of your thumb, the play and pause sit at your thumb- you need to be double jointed to use it- to even try to use the number buttons you have to hold the remote in the other hand- wtf! This alone is enought to make me spitting mad.
The reception from the remote is terrible, sit more than a few feet away and the set will start missing instructions.
You can pause, fast forward and skip, good- but for some stupid reason they decided to make the recording skip back a random amount of time when you finish fast forwarding, or forwards when rewinding- we are not all stupid and unable to press play at the right time!
I fast forward past a short, boring scene, press play, Im watching the scene again, fast forward again, nope, back to the start of that scene. I really want to type in block capitals now...
This function seems to be purely for finding the start and end of the programme, and fast forwarding past adverts, gawd forbid you should try to fast forward or rewind for any other reason!
Why do I have to hold the power button for 3 seconds to switch on my telly? Are people seriously accidentally switching on thier televisions? Why would they be pressing buttons on thier remotes if they didnt want the telly on, we are not idiots.
Then i press 'my shows', i want to watch some recordings, nope, nothing, i have to press home or tv to switch the box on. SO i press them, then 'my shows' begins the long clumsy process of opening,a woefully small picture in picture flickers up first, a wee bit of lag on it, but its ok... another second and its drawn an empty box... too long! Then there is the list of adverts on the top- not what im looking for! It takes a full 4 seconds to bring up my list of folders, pity the text isnt clearer, brighter, i press 'channel down' to get to the next page, 3 seconds. Right takes me into a folder, does nothing for the first second, maybe it didnt register, right again, now its gone right twice... start over. Aargh
It is so slow going through the menus, i no longer want to watch television.
Then there is the ui, for a start there is a bunch of useless adverts for programmes along the top, cant remove them, cant read the small text- if its present. Useless feature. One colour only, dark red with darker red bits seemingly added to further inhibit the reading of text, its an unpleasant colour, against which most pictures and text have low contrast, the ui is not clear. The useful part of the ui takes up only half the screen ( if that ),just the lower left corner for some reason, the border is thin and not sufficient to highlight the useful area. Navigating 'up' too much highlights one of the useless pictures on the top, and an unbordered info panel cover the middle right part of the screen, no continuity, ugly, borderless, like they couldnt be bothered designing a way for it to pop up seperately.
I could really go on and on, it's an unpleasant system to use, no thought has gone into it at all.
As for whatever four year old designed the youtube interface!
A nasty grey block with tiny grey letters- really? From this awful remote with 46 buttons they decided to use only 5 to type in youtbe searches. Really?
They dont let you move the cursor and amend text, causing you to have to delete the lengthy title youve just written because the first letter didnt take. Really?
Search while I type, fine, loading the results blocks actions in the typing pane, but it stores up every button press- meaning the select tools stops responding, then commits all your furious typings in one second after loading. My oh my...
Using this box, watching television provided by virgin media, is a horrible experience, I try my best not to watch tv, only use youtube in moments of madness, these encounters just leave me furious, and wishing, WISHING we'd never switched form Sky
Good: Not alot!!!
Bad: The remote, Cant set reminders, Hard to see what days your on and cant skip pages!!
Comment: Iv had this TiVo box for a few months after moving my V+ into my bedroom and upgrading the living room TV. I have never spent more time in bed!!
The TiVo remote is hard to operate and the circular button with the arrows never goes the way you want it to!
You cant set reminders for programs they will just automatically record the program so if your recording something else it cancels it out.
DO NOT GET THIS. Stick to V+
Good: big hard drive
Bad: can't remind without record
Comment: I upgraded from my virgin V+ HD box to a Tivo box, thinking that I would get a much better viewing experience but that couldn't be further from the truth.
The most infuriating thing is that I cannot have a reminder without the Tivo box automatically recording everything. With my V+ HD box, I could see the channel number on the box itself without having use the on screen display but not on the Tivo box. The menus are not intuitive and if you press the wrong button you get a rude beep. The buttons on the remote control have not been logicall placed; the main control buttons are at the top rather than being in the middle. I could go on. All in all Tivo is a disappointment!
Bad: It is not a TiVo Box!!!!
Comment: I don't know where to start on this one. Took them up on this offer thinking this would be a TiVo box. IT ISN'T do not be fooled by the fact it is advertised as one and is even called a TiVo box.
Firstly the series linking is ok, kind of clunky and has the worlds most annoying system for setting these things up (the boing noise alone annoy the hell out of me).
Secondly there is no way to connect the device to your PC to move the things you have recorded to view later (nothing better than a whole season in one weekend). This leads to the thing filling up in next to no time, I only watch HD content.
Thirdly VM seem to be dictated to by the "Content providers" regarding point 2. This to me seems a little odd as I am paying through the nose for a service and a product that is not working as designed! What happened to the good old days of VCRs.
I could add the menu system, the way unavailable channels still appear and the boot up time.
Bad: It is not a TiVo Box
Bad: The fact it isn't a TiVo box!!!`
