Good: Interesting TV, Quite PVR's, No trouble TV

Bad: Crashing TV, Time consuming Tv

Comment: I have had BT vision for a year and this is what I think:-

THE CONTROLLER:-
The controller is good to look at but very bulkey to touch. The buttons dont always respond when you press them. The good thing about the controller is that you can programme it to your television so that you can control the television colume and channels. The letters on the numbers for the search function is a good idea however if you make a mistake you do not have a button to delete a character.

THE V-BOX:-
The V-box has not a very appealing look to it and I put it in a cupboard out of sight. The box itself is noisey and does distract your attention from the television. The box often crashes and you have to take out the power supply. Then when the box starts back up it takes ages and you have to re-scan all the channels. The bad thing about the starting up is that unless the V-box is connected to the internet it will not start up as it talks to the network while starting up.

The recording side of the box is ok. Not the best though. You can record a single episode or an entire series but when you put it onto recording an entire series it literally records every viewing. Although it gives you an option to only record the first viewing it records all the repeats aswell.

The on demand side of it is a good idea. It has the relavent menu's (TV, music, kids, etc). Within these you have various sub menus and then you can have more again. I think it can be difficult and confusing to use. With the function of only paying for what you want is good however I think the movies are expensive. A new film cost £3.95p for 24 hours and I think this is a rip off. Talk about make your money.

OVERALL OPINION:-
I think it is cheap but you get a cheap service. They do not offer a multi room service unlike sky. I have recently decided to leave BT vision and I am sticking to it.

Good: It was free

Bad: Still seems expensive

Comment: To list the faults:
- Crashes often, requiring reboot
- Has failed to record correctly in the past
- Awful customer service, website gives incorrect information and phone number
- Poor on-demand content
- Rents content that you didn't select (I've had two occasions where its streamed content that doesn't match the title/series)
- Mostly old movies.. though this has improved a bit recently

If it wasn't free I'd give this a 1 but as a free pvr its passable.. Apple TV is light years ahead as an on-demand solution.

Good: Easy to use and set up

Bad: Films could be cheaper!

Comment: My big beef is that if your internet conection slows of which in London it does often and during peak times, your on demand program or film with break up and or stop altogether. Very annoying if you have paid per view at 3.99 then have 24 hours to see the film

Good: On demand IPTV

Bad: No Freeview in my area, no HD content (yet), compression

Comment: A nice lady called me from BT: she offered to cut my broadband costs by £3/month & send me a V-Box, although I do not live in a Freeview area. I already have a home hub, which so far has been reliable, connected to an internet radio, broadband talk phone, an iMac & iBook & a laptop running Linux. The V-Box cost me NOTHING, & worked straight out of the box. I set everything up via SCART, & then swapped to a nice new HDMI cable, which improves picture enormously. Sound is output to my stereo (no surround sound due to space!). Picture is reasonable, on a par with DVD, although fast movement can be a bit blocky. I haven't tested football on demand yet, as there weren't any decent games on the weekend! Sound quality on a par with Sky box. BT need to roll out HDTV as soon as. I don't know how much bandwidth this requires, but some of us are lucky enough to live near an exchange. IPTV is in its infancy, & this box is a great start. Roll-on 21CN..... Meanwhile, if you are already with BT, you can't really go wrong. The kit is free, the setup is painless & films are the same money as the video shop.

Good: That BT rang up and offered to pay me to adopt it

Bad: That at the end of the conversation they realised their mistake

Comment: I am a home hub customer, mainly happy with it but the download speed noticeably goes down in the evening as everyone else in the neighbourhood logs on.
BT rang me up last night, offered to cut my monthly cost of my package by £3 and give me BT Vision free of charge. Great, I thought, I don't mind benefiting from BT's desire to manipulate their adoption figures. Went through all the paperwork then - "Oh, sorry sir we see that your connection isn't able to receive BT Vision. It seems that my "up to" 8MB BT connection doesn't quite cut the mustard for BT's own TV service...

Good: Easy to use, great price, good on demand content

Bad: Limited Freeview channels

Comment: Got this recently along with the BT home hub / IP phone. Easy install, and gives me most of what I want for free without paying for SKY. The on demand content is good and growing, and for what I want much cheaper than the SkY subscription I used to have. Definitely worth the switch.
