Samsung UE46B8000
The 46-inch, 1080p, LED-edge-lit UE46B8000 is fantastically thin, offers excellent picture quality and is packed full of useful and entertaining features. It's pricey and there are some patchiness issues with the backlight on rare occasions, but this is a remarkable set

Toshiba Regza 32RV635DB
As 32-inch, 1080p LCD TVs go, the Regza 32RV635DB is a sturdy and likeable performer, offering good picture quality, decent sound, plenty of user-configurable options and a pleasant design. It won't blow your socks off, but there's very little to dislike and the price is reasonable too

Panasonic Viera TX-P42S10
It's not the most feature-packed set in the world and its design is rather conservative, but the 42-inch, 1080p Viera TX-P42S10 is still a terrific plasma TV. It's a brilliant performer with high-definition content and it offers a good Freeview experience too. There's really very little to dislike

LG 42LF7700 (freesat)
Representing LG's first entry into the freesat TV market, the 42-inch 42LF7700 LCD TV with a 1080p resolution is an admirable effort at a reasonable price. Boasting a seriously attractive design, it also offers hugely watchable pictures, although its black-level response is slightly disappointing

Loewe Art SL 42 Full-HD+ 100 DR+
If you discount its ridiculous name, the 42-inch, 1080p Art SL 42 Full-HD+ 100 DR+ LCD TV has plenty going for it. It's attractive, boasts good picture and sound quality, and offers more configuration options than you can shake a stick at. The real question is whether you're willing to spend over £3,000 on a TV

Sharp Aquos LC46DH77E
Unfortunately, the 1080p, 46-inch Aquos LC46DH77E LCD TV doesn't fully deliver on its eco-friendly promise. It's just as well, then, that this set looks fantastic, puts in a mostly excellent performance with high-definition content, and bears a remarkably low price tag for such a big TV

LG 42PQ6000
The 42-inch, 720p 42PQ6000 is a fantastic plasma TV at a relatively recession-friendly price. It's attractive, boasts beautiful menus and offers excellent standard-definition picture quality. Its high-definition performance is slightly less impressive, but good nonetheless. Overall, we love this set

Samsung UE40B7000WW
The 40-inch, 1080p UE40B7000WW with LED edge lights is a truly magnificent TV. Not only does it boast a remarkably thin design and wonderful picture quality but it's got good online functionality and impressive built-in speakers. We were also delighted to see it can play MKV files -- a real boon

Panasonic Viera TX-L37G10
The 37-inch, 1080p Viera TX-L37G10 is a top-quality LCD TV with built-in Freeview and freesat HD tuners, allowing you to access the widest possible range of free channels without the need for any messy external boxes. It's expensive but it offers excellent performance with high-definition content

Philips Essence 42PES0001D
The 42-inch, 1080p Essence 42PES0001D LCD TV is one of the best Philips sets we've seen. Design-wise, this amazingly thin TV is a marvel, and you'll be hard-pressed to find a set that's easier to hang on the wall. Most importantly, picture quality is spectacular, and audio quality, via the separate speaker bar, isn't bad either

Loewe Individual 40 Compose Full-HD+ 100 DR+
The 40-inch, 1080p Individual 40 Compose Full-HD+ 100 DR+ LCD TV is staggeringly expensive. The TV portion alone, never mind all the extras, costs almost £4,000. Those who can afford it, though, will get great features, design and performance for their money

Hannspree XV HT09-28E1
The XV HT09-28E1 is remarkably cheap for a 28-inch LCD TV with a 1080p resolution. The set, nevertheless, offers generally good high-definition and standard-definition pictures, although audio quality leaves something to be desired and dark scenes could be handled better

Panasonic Viera TX-P50X10B
The 50-inch Viera TX-P50X10B plasma TV is aimed at bargains hunters who don't want to compromise on screen size. Good value for money and stylishly designed, it looks like a more expensive TV and offers very good picture quality too -- most people will never realise it's a 720p, not 1080p, set

JVC DLA-HD350
The DLA-HD350 projector is a spectacular performer that offers outstanding picture quality and, in particular, excellent black-level response. It could benefit from more features, and some rivals offer richer colours, but the DLA-HD350 remains a bargain of gargantuan proportions

Toshiba Regza 46ZV555DB
The 46-inch, 1080p LCD 46ZV555DB is a straightforward set that handles high-definition content particularly well. That's fortunate, as the set doesn't perform so well with Freeview and standard-definition material. Overall, we liked this TV but felt Toshiba could have done better

Panasonic Viera TH-42PZ800
Panasonic's flagship 42-inch plasma TV boasts a 'Full HD' 1080p resolution and the full monty of the company's picture-processing technology to give an impressive viewing experience. But in the current financial climate, the 42PZ800's cheaper rivals may prove its worst enemy

Sony Bravia KDL-52W4500
Having recently liked the performance of Sony's Bravia KDL-46Z4500 LCD TV before being put off by its high price, we took delivery of the much better value KDL-52W4500 with a real sense of anticipation. If it can approach the quality of the 46Z4500 at a much lower price per inch, it'll be just fine by us

Pioneer Kuro KRP-500A
In spite of the embarrassing acronym, the Pioneer Kuro KRP-500A is a very high-end TV, aimed squarely at the home-cinema enthusiast. With all its inputs and media gubbins in a separate box, it's incredibly thin for such a large panel -- and its picture is magnificent, as you'd expect for such a high price

Samsung LE32A558
A 'Full HD' 1080p LCD TV for under £500? That'll be Samsung value. The Koreans have pulled another cracking bargain out of their capacious bin with the 32A558, a high-gloss, low-key 32-inch model with a panoply of image-processing features and options

Philips 42PFL9803
With its 42PFL9803 LCD, Philips further hones a first-generation technology. Instead of a panel illuminated from behind like in most LCDs, the 9803 uses an array of more than 1,000 LEDs behind the panel to illuminate the picture. The result is a breathtaking, crisp image that is enhanced by superb audio
