LG LU7000 (22LU7000)

The 22-inch, HD Ready 22LU7000 LCD TV isn't perfect, but it still outclasses the majority of other combination TVs, and its front-mounted, built-in DVD player is unusually practical. Such is the TV's convenience, in fact, that we think many people seeking a secondary set may be happy to overlook a couple of picture flaws

The 40-inch, 1080p LE40B550 LCD TV offers remarkable value for money, outperforming its budget price point by a country mile. Its speakers lack bass, and other Samsung TVs have more features, but its picture performance is great and it looks gorgeous

LG SL8000 (42SL8000)

The strikingly slim, 42-inch, 1080p 42SL8000 is the best LG LCD TV we've seen so far. It's packed to bursting point with features and connections, its pictures are great 99 per cent of the time, and it looks beautiful. For the price, it's also remarkably good value

Cello C3298FR

Neither the C3298FR's audio or video performance is anything to get particularly excited about. But the fact that this 32-inch, HD Ready LCD TV with built-in DVD player can record programmes via its two built-in Freeview tuners to SD cards means it's definitely worth considering for those with cutting-edge tastes

Panasonic Viera G15 (TX-P46G15)

The 46-inch, 1080p Viera TX-P46G15 plasma TV offers plenty of value for money. Although its standard-definition pictures aren't perfect, its high-definition performance is terrific, and it's stuffed with features, including Panasonic's Viera Cast online service, and built-in freesat and Freeview tuners

The 32-inch, 1080p 32PFL7404H/12 LCD TV may lack some of the potency of Philips' expensive 9000-series sets, but it's easily one of the finest tellies in its class when you compare it to similarly priced models. Bargain hunters will be delighted by its great picture quality and cornucopia of features

Sony Bravia E5300 (KDL-22E5300)

The 22-inch, HD Ready Bravia KDL-22E5300 LCD TV blew our socks off so far that we still haven't found them. Its design is striking, its feature set is ambitious, and, most importantly, its picture quality is superb for such a small TV. This set's expensive, but, if you can afford it, you should buy it

Toshiba Regza ZV (42ZV635DB)

Packing plenty of picture-processing chops, the 42-inch, 1080p Regza 42ZV635DB's motion-handling capability is the best we've seen so far on a Toshiba LCD TV. The set's black levels could be better, but it offers an opulent design, good connectivity and a great deal of picture flexibility

Cello C1973FIP

With a built-in iPod dock and DVD player, the 19-inch, HD Ready C1973FIP LCD TV will appeal to those who are either short on space or just hate clutter. You can't expect top-notch picture quality from a machine of this type at this price, but it offers decent performance and convenience in a cute design

The Regza 37XV635DB isn't particularly expensive for a 37-inch, 1080p LCD TV, but it's still got plenty going for it. Its minimalist design is pleasing, its performance with standard-definition material is particularly good, it packs an effective video-processing suite, and its audio isn't bad either

We weren't expecting much from the 47-inch, 1080p 47LH3000 LCD TV, since it bears a startlingly low price tag. But it confounded our expectations at every turn, offering striking pictures, excellent menus and an attractive design. This set is a real bargain

Sharp Aquos LE600 (LC40LE600E)

The 1080p, 40-inch Aquos LC40LE600E is remarkably affordable for an LED-backlit LCD TV. While Sharp's cut a few corners to keep the price down, the set looks great and its pictures are often blisteringly intense, without any of LED backlighting's usual unpleasant side effects

You'll need to lay down a sizeable wad of cash to buy the 42-inch, 1080p Viera TX-P42G15 plasma TV, but it's worth it. This set boasts exceptional picture quality and is jam-packed with features, including an on-board freesat HD tuner and Web connectivity

Despite a rather dour exterior, the 1080p, 46-inch Bravia KDL-46W5500 is a fantastic LCD TV. Its images are nothing short of sensational, it offers good connectivity and multimedia functionality, and, compared to other Bravia sets, it's surprisingly affordable too

Bargain hunters may well wet their pants at the prospect of the 1080p, 32-inch 32LH5000 LCD TV, and with good cause. Its average black-level response prevents it from being an absolute classic, but it sports spectacular specs for its price and boasts a seductive design too
