Neither the C3298FR's audio or video performance is anything to get particularly excited about. But the fact that this 32-inch, HD Ready LCD TV with built-in DVD player can record programmes via its two built-in Freeview tuners to SD cards means it's definitely worth considering for those with cutting-edge tastes

Sony Bravia E5300 (KDL-22E5300)

The 22-inch, HD Ready Bravia KDL-22E5300 LCD TV blew our socks off so far that we still haven't found them. Its design is striking, its feature set is ambitious, and, most importantly, its picture quality is superb for such a small TV. This set's expensive, but, if you can afford it, you should buy it

With a built-in iPod dock and DVD player, the 19-inch, HD Ready C1973FIP LCD TV will appeal to those who are either short on space or just hate clutter. You can't expect top-notch picture quality from a machine of this type at this price, but it offers decent performance and convenience in a cute design

Toshiba Regza 32AV635DB

Given its eye-poppingly affordable price, you can't be too surprised that the 32-inch Regza 32AV635DB LCD TV doesn't break any AV barriers. But it still outperforms the vast majority of its ultra-cheap peers, offering surprisingly accomplished pictures and plenty of features

Although extremely butch TV fans may be deterred by the 22-inch 22LU5000 LCD TV's flamboyant design, many others will find it appealing. Whether or not a 1080p resolution is necessary on a screen of this size is debatable, but you can't question this set's great picture quality and features

The F2620LVD combines an HD Ready, 26-inch LCD TV with a DVD player for relative peanuts. Considering the price, you can't expect the pinnacle of AV performance, but high-definition pictures are reasonably sharp and images are generally bright. As a second-room TV, it could be worth considering

If you want a 26-inch, HD Ready LCD TV and have only £250 to spend, you might want to check out Goodmans' LD2667D. At this price, you can't expect cutting-edge features, fantastic picture quality or the last word in audio performance, but it's not a bad-looking set

As 32-inch, 1080p LCD TVs go, the Regza 32RV635DB is a sturdy and likeable performer, offering good picture quality, decent sound, plenty of user-configurable options and a pleasant design. It won't blow your socks off, but there's very little to dislike and the price is reasonable too

The HD Ready KDL-26V4000 LCD TV is surprisingly affordable for a Sony Bravia set. Judged by Sony's current standards, it's short on features and looks unglamorous, but it produces some of the best pictures we've seen from a 26-inch TV, with bright, rich colours and deep, convincing black levels

LG 42PQ6000

The 42-inch, 720p 42PQ6000 is a fantastic plasma TV at a relatively recession-friendly price. It's attractive, boasts beautiful menus and offers excellent standard-definition picture quality. Its high-definition performance is slightly less impressive, but good nonetheless. Overall, we love this set

Technika LCD32-209

For a HD Ready, 32-inch LCD TV, the LCD32-209 is remarkably cheap. It's also nowhere near as bad as you might expect, especially considering that it comes off a supermarket shelf. Decent contrast, vibrant colours and surprisingly good audio mean it's worth a look for those seeking a cheap second-room set

The Regza 26AV505DB is fantastically cheap for a big-brand, HD Ready, 26-inch LCD TV. It's performance is also far better than you might expect given the price, and, while you probably wouldn't want it as your main TV, it would be a good-value secondary set

The XV HT09-28E1 is remarkably cheap for a 28-inch LCD TV with a 1080p resolution. The set, nevertheless, offers generally good high-definition and standard-definition pictures, although audio quality leaves something to be desired and dark scenes could be handled better

So while die-hard future-heads might wish that the LG 32LG4000 had a built-in Blu-ray player, its cleverly integrated DVD player makes it an unusually practical -- and surprisingly affordable -- kitchen or bedroom option
