If you want high-quality pictures, the Panasonic Viera TX-P42S10 won't disappoint. We really like everything about this TV -- Blu-ray movies look stunning, Freeview is handled well and the configuration options are simple but still cover the important areas. The only thing we don't like is what isn't on the TV -- media playback support for popular Internet formats would be a good addition, and we'd love to see Viera Cast on these mid-range screens
Philips 9000 (47PFL9664H/12)
After immediately warming our cockles with its impressively slender design and eye-catching Ambilight system, the Philips 47PFL9664H/12 blew us away with one of the best all-round AV performances we've seen from any LCD TV to date
Samsung UE46B8000
The UE46B8000 is another stunning TV from Samsung. There are so many things about this TV that we adore. The picture quality is epic, the design is a thing of beauty and the extra features are both useful and fun. We noticed that the backlight did give rise to some patchiness, although this is only really a problem with pure-black pictures. Overall, it's a pricey but remarkable TV. Do consider the slightly cheaper B7000 range if this is above your financial comfort zone
Sony Bravia Z5800 (KDL-40Z5800)
It may have taken Sony longer than expected to catch up with LG and Panasonic on the freesat-tuner front, but it's been worth the wait. The Bravia KDL-40Z5800 is one of the company's finest TVs yet, with the relative affordability of some rivals being its only real downside
Samsung UE40B7000WW
The Samsung UE40B7000WW is truly wonderful. While we still think plasma TVs have the edge, the UE40B7000WW shows that Samsung is turning sets with LED edge lights into real competitors. We're big fans of the TV's Yahoo Widgets and media-playback capability, and were blown away by the set's ability to play MKV files -- this is truly brilliant, and we're very excited to see a TV with this functionality built in
Sony Bravia W5500 (KDL-46W5500)
For those who can't afford one of Sony's exceptional X4500 LED-backlit TVs, the fantastic functionality and performance of the surprisingly affordable Bravia KDL-46W5500 should do the trick. It's just a shame that Sony's online system isn't as good as those of its rivals
LG SL9000 (42SL9000)
The LG 42SL9000 looks great and offers a solid feature set, but its performance falls a notch or two short of the best that the LED TV world currently has to offer. As a result, its price looks rather steep
Toshiba Regza 32RV635DB
The Toshiba Regza 32RV635DB is a really likeable TV for a fairly sensible price. A 1080p resolution is totally unnecessary on a 32-inch TV, but that's hardly an issue when you aren't paying through the nose for it. This TV will appeal to PlayStation 3 owners who want 1080p gaming, and probably to Blu-ray fans who don't have room for a larger TV. We also think the simple remote with large buttons makes this a good choice for older people or those who don't aren't technically inclined
LG 42PQ6000
The LG 42PQ6000's performance with high-definition content won't blow you away. That's not to say it's bad -- it's just that the lack of 1080p resolution means Blu-ray movies don't have the impact they could have. But we still utterly love this TV. The overall picture quality is excellent, the user interface is logical, friendly and attractive, and the price tag is relatively recession-friendly. The 42PQ6000 is a real winner and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend it
