What we think: If you want a huge TV that's not a plasma, then this certainly fits the bill

HELLO! I'm Ian Morris, and this incredibly large TV is the Toshiba 52Z3030, a 52-inch LCD TV designed to fill up your living room, break furniture and entertain your eyeballs all at the same time.
It's a stylish monster though, and even though it won't suit every living room, if you're lucky enough to have a big enough space to accommodate it, it's quite a crowd pleaser. Although the bezel is rather thick in comparison to some of Toshiba's recent screens, it's still an attractive TV.
This enormous TV is designed for people who really want a home cinema experience in their own home. Of course, a screen this size really needs to be constructed of the best components and this one is. It's a 1080p based on Toshiba's Z series panel. That means it has 120hz support, which in-turn means it can offer smooth film playback with its 5:5 pulldown wizardry.
We REALLY like the picture quality, especially on Freeview, which we think it does a remarkable job with, in spite of its size. HD material looks amazing, as you might imagine, we sat slack jawed through much of Casino Royale and PS3 gaming is a truly immersive experience, indeed, I was nearly violently ill playing Burnout Paradise because I sat too close to the screen.
The remote control is the standard fare for Toshiba TVs, it's nice enough and it works pretty well too. We managed to get Regza Link to control our HD DVD player, but it wouldn't do the same for our Sony Blu-ray machine, which was a bit of a shame, but hardly unique to this TV.
For plugging stuff in you'll find the usual inputs, there are three HDMI sockets, component VGA and a pair of SCARTS all lurking around the back and sides of the TV.
Overall, we're pretty impressed by this TV, if you simply MUST have an LCD, and you need a massive screen, you won't be disappointed but for big-screen entertainment plasma offers screens even larger than this one and they are often a lot less than the £1700 or so this TV costs.
I'm Ian Morris, and this is the Toshiba 52Z3030.
A visually impressive TV that does a great job with most things you throw at it. Sadly, we're not thrilled about the shallow viewing angle and slightly muddy black levels, both a result of the backlight
