Hello friends. Last year we got very excited about the slim bezel TV from Toshiba. That TV was the 40XF355, but today I'm standing next to an even more exciting TV, the 40ZF355. Although the model numbers are similar, the Z of this screen refers to type of LCD panel Toshiba uses and the picture processing, which is more advanced and should produce a better picture.
Before we talk about the picture, lets have a look at the design of the TV. It goes without saying that the slim bezel makes this TV look fabulous. Once you see one of these, you'll think regular TVs are fat and ugly. But there is more to the TV than just the bezel. There are hidden speakers, designed by Onkyo, which enable a much better sound than you would expect from a flat panel.
There is also this blue light. It doesn't do much, in fact all it really does is light up blue. Like that. We're at a bit of a loss to explain it really, it's not that we have a massive problem with decorative lights, we really don't, but we're not going to go loopy for them either. Luckily you can turn it off via the menu system, if you so desire.
At the back you'll find two HDMI sockets with a third on the side. There is a pair of SCARTS too and component and VGA in. All the connections you'd expect on a TV like this.
Now, to the important bit. The picture quality on this TV is superb. Freeview looked good, which is always a bonus, and HD material looked really fantastic. This TV has a 120hz picture mode, which means it can greatly improve the natural motion of movies using a technique called 5:5 pulldown. This means you should get the smoothest possible motion, and it really does work.
As we've mentioned, the Onkyo speaker system does a great job handling sound, but don't expect jaw-rattling bass. If you want that, you can hook up a subwoofer, or buy a surround sound system.
If you want a visually striking, high-end TV, we don't think you'll be disappointed by this TV. The picture and sound quality are both great and it does a fantastic job with movies.
