What we think: Not the most aesthetically exciting or feature-packed TV, but this terrific set offers brilliant picture quality

We like:
Excellent picture quality; good design
We don't like:
Not the most exciting TV we've seen; we'd like to see more than three HDMI sockets
CNET UK judgement:
If you want high-quality pictures, the Panasonic Viera TX-P42S10 won't disappoint. We really like everything about this TV -- Blu-ray movies look stunning, Freeview is handled well and the configuration options are simple but still cover the important areas. The only thing we don't like is what isn't on the TV -- media playback support for popular Internet formats would be a good addition, and we'd love to see Viera Cast on these mid-range screens

Panasonic is no exception, and the Viera TX-P42S10 is a great example of a well-made, well-designed, 42-inch, 1080p plasma TV that costs less than £1,000. You can expect to pay around £900 for the TX-P42S10, although some Web sites are offering it for £850. Continue Reading...

Now though, there are enough reasons to favour a plasma if you're about to splash some cash on a new telly

We compare four of the best TVs on the market for around the £800 mark -- the feature-laden Sony Bravia KDL-40V5500, the Panasonic Viera TX-P42S10 with its stunning pictures, the LG 42LF7700 with its built-in freesat receiver, and the LG 42PQ6000, a great all-rounder
