Typical price: £1,500
What is it: A 50-inch plasma television with built-in Freeview
What we think: A massive TV that will appeal to sports fans and people who want to watch Freeview on a large screen with minimal picture distortion

We like:
Size; three HDMI sockets; Freeview and HD quality
We don't like:
Picture noise; only HDMI 1.3; not 1080p
You might also need:
HDMI cable; HD DVD or Blu-ray player
CNET UK judgement:
Samsung's PS50Q97HD is a good buy if you want the maximum visual impact for your money. The picture isn't perfect, but it does redeem itself with better than average Freeview performance
