Typical price: £900
What is it: High-definition compatible 32-inch LCD TV
What we think: Although lacking Freeview, Toshiba's hi-def TV offers performance on a budget

We like:
Hi-def compatibility; simple menu system; Active Vision picture processing; HDMI input
We don't like:
Dull, grey styling; component video requires adaptor; lacks Freeview tuner; only one RGB Scart
You might also need:
HDMI cable, Scart cable, component to VGA adaptor, aerial
CNET UK judgement:
Toshiba's WL56 range squares up against Samsung's latest LCDs nicely, offering nearly all the same features except Freeview. Its dull styling and lack of component video inputs marr the experience though, and the picture quality is ever so slightly worse. It's still a bargain offering, but can't take the budget crown

32WL56 LCD TV: A load of new Tosh
It's attack of the LCDs this month on Crave, as we see another of the big manufacturers release a 32-inch HDTV at just over £1,000. The 32WL56 isn't as stylish as Samsung's recent effort and can't match Sony's for picture quality, but it's an interesting glimpse at what the company might perfect on its next-gen model

It's not much of a secret that iPlayer was going to turn up on freesat at some point. The good news is, we now know there will be a beta program run at the end of November
