AU
The sound file format used by Unix computers. Because the Internet is dominated by Unix boxes, you'll find a lot of AU files out there. Luckily, Macintosh and PC browsers are usually able to play AU files. A sound file that originated on a PC is likely to be in WAV or MIDI format instead, while sounds created on the Mac are likely to be in AIFF format.
