ActiveX
A marketing name for a broad set of technologies and services based on Microsoft's Component Object Model (COM), ActiveX primarily refers to ActiveX Controls, which are software components typically used to enrich Web pages by calling on the functionality of locally installed Microsoft applications. For example, an ActiveX Control could enable a user to view an Excel document within Internet Explorer.
