Heap of new cameras? You'll be after PMA 2008
Roll up, roll up, for the camera circus is coming to town. Techheads, gizmo junkies and gadgeteers may have just about recovered from the frenzy of CES, but now buyers, hacks and the tech-buying public are girding their loins, livers and wallets for a return to Sin City. From 31 January to 2 February, the Las Vegas Convention Centre is overrun by shutterbugs for the Photo Marketing Association trade show 2008.
PMA is all about the latest and most exciting cameras and photography equipment. From the major manufacturers to the smallest start-ups, the camera industry flocks to the Nevada desert every January.
The rumour mill has been ever-churning, and in the usual game of press-release brinkmanship several of the camera manufacturers have already broken cover with announcements of new cameras. We'll be highlighting the best of these debutantes this week in Crave in the run-up to PMA itself.
Sony has dumped the usual heap of models, while Canon, Olympus, Fujifilm, Pentax and Samsung have also launched a hatful of cameras. There's a fistful of new SLRs, a plethora of compacts, and even the occasional superzoom. As well as showcasing the new models we'll be bringing you the shocks, surprises, and oddities as they emerge in Crave.
