It's a tough Christmas, but someone's got to do it
I hate Christmas. Oh, I'm not some kind of warped Scrooge figure; I hate all public holidays equally. Halloween, New Year's Eve, bank holidays, all of them. The costumes, the enforced jollity, the shops being too busy one minute and shut the next, even though it's a perfectly good Tuesday, paying fifteen quid to not be able to get a seat in the pub you sit in every night... Twattiquette: why Twitter is not a messaging tool
So much has been written about Twitter and its Marmite quality I won't go into why you need to use it. Instead I've been thinking about how people use it. Click here for more

Wow, look at the weirdos
NCIS made me laugh the other day. Like many episodes, 'The Immortals' followed the CSI template of killing someone in an obscure subculture -- in this case, online gaming -- so the bemused but beautiful 'tecs can investigate it, complete with gothette lab tech Pauley Perrette explaining the game to a befuddled David McCallum. The apparent suicide of an MMORPG-playing sailor, unable to distinguish between game and real life, revealed an online feud spilling into the real world in a paranoid revenge fantasy. Why I must quit CNET: My Russell Brand sex shame
It is with 'eavy 'eart that I must announce my resignation from CNET UK. My time at the UK's largest consumer technology Web site has been challenging and enjoyable, yet I feel my position is no longer tenable after recent revelations that I have never had sex with Russell Brand. Boxwish: Celluloid style
More harping on about products in movies. This week I returned to Boxwish, a site with a great premise: you look up a film, and it tells you where you can buy the stuff seen in the film. If you spot something for sale that can also be spotted in the film, these 'spots' are linked from the site. You can also add merchandising such as books, toys and branded clothing. I'll shoot the camera next time: James Bond and the eBay affair
If the product placement crowbarred into Casino Royale wasn't jarring enough, just wait for Quantum of Solace. While the second trailer has this Bond fan salivating, I'm not enjoying the advertising campaign gearing up to plaster Daniel Craig's meat-pie mug across adverts for watches, cars and washing powders. Apparently James Bond's favourite airline is Virgin Atlantic -- remember Richard Branson's smug cameo in Casino Royale? Click here for more

Large Hadron Collider generates weird particles, headlines
It's official: we're all in the grip of Large Hadron Collider fever. As forums buzz with apocalyptic hysteria and rational, reasoned -- ie, boring -- rebuttals, even Google has got in on the act with today's logo design. The LHC was turned on today and we're all still in one piece -- or at least we think we are... Click here for more

Canon HG21
Review Our main issue with the HG21, Canon's high-class, high-definition camcorder, is that it may be too good for its own good. Now that should tell you something. The HG21 comes with a whopping 120GB hard drive, a vast array of high-end features and produces video that is absolutely breathtaking. If you think you can make use of it all, this one's a winner
