Good: Scans well, Copies ok
Bad: Ink usage
Comment: I have yet to get it to print more than a dozen pages in a 3 week period with one of the cartridges quitting. I don't dare attempt to print a photograph, there wouldn't be enough ink in a new cartridge. Currently I get through a set of cartridges every 5 or 6 dozen pages. Utter rubbish!
Bad: The whole thing!
Comment: I bought this printer originally in July 2012, I don't need to print often so I would say it was used once a week or so, approximately at the 8 month mark it stopped working, complete hardware failure, we were offered a replacement, which we happily accepted, thinking this was a one off as we have several HP products in the house, all computers, and never had a problem, It is now November 2013, I went to use the replacement printer several days ago after a month of no use, I'd just bought $60 worth ink, I printed three black and white pages, on the fourth page it jammed, I removed the jam in the correct fashion and turned the printer off not thinking anything more of it (this Printer has jammed A LOT over the past year and half I've owned the two different printers.) I went to print something else today, and lo and behold, it is completely broken! It is no longer able to feed paper properly, it will give me any of the following messages:
*Printer paper has jammed.
*Out of ink/low on ink.
Or, perhaps the most troubling, it will not recognize that there is no paper and PRINT onto nothing, leaving ink inside of the printer (I'm not really sure how bad this is considered, but with the ink the price it is it's quite irritating.)
We have at this point been offered a replacement, the updated printer "Photosmart 5520 e-AiO Printer" The only good thing I've had to say about this HP printer is that the customer service is amazing in the very least, but it bothers me how on the ball HP is with computers, but fails horribly with printers.
Fingers crossed this new printer actually works, but in the future I will never buy another HP printer.
Good: when in works good quality prints
Bad: Almost everything else
Comment: This printer prints good quality images when it is behaving, Unfirtunately it constantly says there are jammed cartridges or the cartridges are missing or damaged and now just after the warranty has expired it will not print anything in black. I have tried everything from changing cartridges to going through HP's step by step online guide and nothing. This seems to be a common problem. his product is poor and I will personally never buy a HP product again
Good: scanner, cheap individual colour ink replacement
Bad: paper feed, text print quality
Comment: I'm rather disappointed. The first Photosmart 5510 I bought three months ago I had to hand right back in because it was not possible to feed paper - it would jam every sheet. Now I have the substitute but still the paper feeding is very poor. On some sheets it creates a crease in the middle. Being a teacher, I would often like to print on transparencies which was no problem with my old HP 1317 but with the HP 5510 as soon as the transparency has only a very slight bend which they usually have I get a jam - I have not been able yet to print a single transparency and it seems I must get my old printer repaired.
As to the text printing quality, on most text pages there are one or two pixel lines missing so it looks like there is a white line through the printed sentence.
I wouldn't buy this printer again.
I can only use it well for scanning and creating byte-saving pdf documents - that's what my old printer can't do but I expect a little more from a printer than that.
Bad: worked for less than a year
Comment: had this printer for 1 year and 2 months and it's broken already. called HP tech support and was told that I would need to pay $79.99 for their tech support. Called a second time and was told that there's nothing they could do and was told that 1. i could purchase another HP printer for a discounted price but it would be a used or trade. and 2. sorry, if you don't take option 1, we can't help you. wtf? i've read many other reviews in regard to the same printer and it's all the same issues. a "supposedly" hp case manager called me and pretty much told me, i/ we probably broke the printer ourselves. HP prodcuts sucks and their freaking CS are rude and so unprofessional. i will NEVER ever buy a HP product AGAIN!
Good: Not sure
Bad: It worked fine for about 6 months and the roller quit feeding the paper through.
Comment: This printer is used in my home and has extremly low usage. It is only about 6 months old and the rollers quit feeding the pages through and would come up paper jam.
Good: Cloud and Wif-fi printing, speed and quality printing for the cost of the printer
Bad: Noise while printing
Comment: This printer is very good value for money. The features are superb. You can print fast and high quality documents for little more than the cost of the replacement inks. I previously had a Canon Pixma and can see no loss in print quality on test prints. The Canon Ink was two thirds of the cost of the new HP Photosmart printer with ink. The additional Wi-Fi printing and cloud printing more than covered this additional twenty pounds. Using glossy HP photoprinting paper the photo results are more than acceptable. I have since seen the 6510 and the only additional features appear to be the sheet feed improvements and the larger touch screen. Both are superb value for money. If you compare the two the 5510 is actually more compact. Only negative point to make is the print and head cleaning noise is quite loud.
Bad: Noisy, unreliable
Comment: I've only had this printer for a few months and am very disappointed. Print quality is unreliable, when I was printing out identical photos for christmas cards, some were ok, others were washed out. I've just installed new ink cartridges and the yellow ink cartridge isn't registering at all. It makes terrible noises when it is printing and I can't get it to print 6 x4 at all.
Bad: NOISE and photo print quality
Comment: I cannot believe the number of positive reviews that this printer has on sites all over the internet. On first turning on, the graunching noises it made are horrible. Any other movement of the carrier continues to produce excessive noise. HP replaced it very quickly, but lo and behold, the new one is just as noisy! The print quality of photos is decidely average as well...and I'm basing this on my previous printer, an 8 year old HP cheapie. Photos lack vibrant colours and clarity. The scanner, however is excellent with wonderful results. I bought this printer on the basis of reviews and my previous wonderful HPdeskjet 5552
Good: Touch Screen
Bad: Retro Design, Yuk !
Comment: just forgot to mention the retro design of this printer is yuk. I seen these designs in the eighties when people bought them in the 70's. HP already has a bad reputation for printer breakdowns now they have a reputation from me for bad design taste.
