Good: Its Looks
Bad: Everything!
Comment: Having spent hours today trying to print with my Epson Stylus SX600FW I have made avow to myself never to buy an Epson again!
It constantly fails to recognise genuine cartridges, this renders the unit completely useless, if one cartridge is u/s its stops you using the rest of the features, I cant even send a fax!
I have already replaced all the cartridges today and its shut down saying it doesnt recognise the yellow and black! Because its now just over 12mth old its not covered by warranty, Epson customer services are useless even though it costs you premium rate to call them!
Never ever again Epson!!!!!!!
Andy (normally laid back, but driven to dispair! Grrrr!)

Good: When it works: network, wifi, speed quality, capability
Bad: Print heads gum up
Comment: No matter what ink you use, eventually (and for me after 12 months) the print heads gum up. Usually when changing a cartridge. There's NOTHING you can do except take it to an Epson dealer and pay £25 / $35 for an intensive head clean. Apparently this is an Epson design problem and for a relatively light home user like me, this is likely to be an increasing problem.
It's why I'm now looking for a new device, because cost is never the defining factor at such low volumes (100 pages per month) but reliability and convenience* are - *i.e. NOT having to wrap it up, take it 30 miles to the nearest dealer and wait a week two times a year (so £75 a year including petrol and parking).

Good: Scanner
Bad: Reliability, Software
Comment: I bought this printer having had good earlier experience with Epson printers. But this one is a shocker. The automatic doc feeder failed after one month, the software forces the user to execute completely redundant function steps and the ink management system has one for ever buying new cartridges. I got some early good colour prints but, for reasons that I cannot work out, these are now completely useless. The scanner works well - using flatbed only - but I have had to replace the printer 6 months after buying it.

Good: Good fast printer and scanner
Bad: Wireless set-up was a dog!
Comment: Great printer but WiFi set up instructions did not work for me. Spent hours on this trying to configure it so to not destroy existing WiFi settings. Epson help desk told me to manually enter settings directly into the printer using the control panel and then proceed with the software load. As I proceeded I discovered you can do all this via the s/w load anyway - it just doesn't say so on the paper instructions!. So if you have a standard WiFi router with broadband access then just go straight to temporarily connecting the USB and doing the s/w load from disk. After I did this the printer still failed to connect initially to WiFi but after several attempts it finally connected - this may have been more to do with the Orange livebox which I have never trusted!
This printer was a warrantee replacement for an SX600FW which when working was great for 8 months untill the black ink just stopped working. Let's hope I have better luck with the SX610FW.
Cheers,
GJ.
