Good: Quality and speed of printing on all types of media
Bad: Matte black and gloss optimizer cartridges are depleted gradually just from turning machine on & off (a cleaning cycle begins every time you switch on or off).
Comment: Excellent value for money. I have Epson's 1290 and Photo 2000P; the 1290 gave up the ghost after 5 years' heavy use. The 200P soldiers on (used professionally), but now seems incredibly slow after the R1800! The R1800's light-fastness would seem about as good as it gets, according to the Wilhelm Research Institute - even better than more expensive Epson models.
This judgement follows heavy use - 38 ink cartridges' worth. Only one minor nozzle blockage in all that use.

Good: The colour gamut is very accurate
Bad: All prints display terrible banding
Comment: This printer has awesome potential, which is why I bought it, but it has produced nothing but prints with terrible banding problems compared to the silky-smooth, non-banding, tiny ink-droplet-looking Epson Stylus Photo 1280. The 1280's colours are not nearly as accurate and don't have nearly as wide a colour gamut, but it's SO much smoother AND sharper. I think I must have got a defective R1800. A new one is on the way, so I'll let you know how it turns out.
