Good: size and versatility
Bad: just about everything else
Comment: The computer is only capable of wireless internet connection unless you use the bulky base station. No optical drive, so USB drives only. The computer overheats to the point of being able to cause serious burn and then freezes up or even worse, stops recognizing the hard drive. Customer support is outsourced and frequently not understandable. Mine has been in 3 times for the same issue and they will not let me speak directly to the repair facility. Stay away from this lemon. Dell will not stand behind their product
Comment: Works best on Windows 8 or Ubuntu 12.04
Comment: I have an old XP based HP Compaq tablet PC with rotateable/detachable keyboard. This would make a good replacement when I have the money and want to go Win7.
But I actually mainly wanted to comment on the fact that rotating the screen is something which could easily be solved in software. I know a number of graphics card manufacturers who provide this functionality for people with Desktops that have swivel screens. I'm sure it wouldn't be hard to implement.
Good: The size, the weight, it's look, it's duo useage
Bad: It doesn't work with Skype
Comment: The true statement in Step 1 should be 'I owned it'. Because this morning I returned my second Dell Inspiron Duo in 6 weeks to the store. Yep I've gone through two!
I bought it to take away with me for a month, so I had something lightweight and would be able to keep in touch with family and friends via Skype. I installed Office 2010 and Skype on it.
The first one - I was having trouble with Skype, it kept telling me that the computer was running too slowly, was I connected to AC power, could I close down all other applications? etc. Then logging in it kept hanging. I returned it to the store where I told them my troubles with Skype, I wondered if it was user error on my part. But they confirmed the hard disk was up the creek and replaced it with a new computer two days later.
Dell Duo number 2. I had for seven days, two of which I was travelling & did not use it a further two it was back at the store as the Windows updates wouldn't install properly, one day I used it to work on my CV and a further two days have been spent, reloading, restarting, uninstalling, reinstalling, following service support instructions from the store, from Skype and from Dell. Taking screen shots, sending them back, being on interactive live support sessions etc.
This morning Dell Support were able to advise that the reason Skype can't run video calls, or they drop out is because the performance rating of the Dell Inspiron Duo is only 2.9 and Skype requires a minimum of 3.5. When I tried to say that the product is clearly unable to support Skype which is ridiculous considering it has a built in camera and microphone etc. They advised yes it does support Skype, just not video calls. Hmmm, Well I had also been unable to make Skype to Skype calls with no video, nor Skype to landline calls, nor at times could I even send messages.
The one thing I have learnt is that I obviously need a computer with a performance rating of 3.5 or higher and apparently no netbook offers this. So if you are wishing to use Skype - without constant error messages or call drop outs, or not being able to call at all. Then do not, at this point in time, buy a Dell Inspiron Duo, or other netbook.
I never really got to play with the Duo as I had hoped to and I am struggling to find a replacement product, because nothing can match all its other qualities. It would have been perfect for my requirements - if only Skype would work properly!
Good: small form factor, great screen, easy to use
Bad: nothing so far
Comment: fantastic little machine. The touch screen works well and once calibrated is perfectly accurate for use with windows. I.ve wanted something like this for a long time. well done dell this ticks all the boxes for me.
Good: Its touch screen and can flip around. It has a good battery life at 3 hours because I dont use computers for that long.
Bad: Slow and unresponsive.
Comment: It looks sophisticated and you can either type or touch according to your mood.
Apperantly the loading is slow.
It would be nicer in different colours like blues, reds and greens rather than black
I dont know why people arent giving the netbook a good review.
Bad: Dells appalling customer service!!, speed, poor responsiveness on windows 7 touch interface
Comment: Dell uk customer service is a complete joke.
I ordered the product 2weeks before Christmas for a pre-Christmas delivery.
Fortunately, i never felt confident dealing with the salesman regarding obtaining the exact order i required, so i asked for written confirmation by email.
This email has proved invaluable as my order was delivered before Christmas incomplete!! and this was my only reference to the JBL audio dock which was ordered as a bundle, but not delivered.
It has taken almost 6 weeks of continuous emails (unanswered!!) and numerous calls (charged above normal rate) to get to a solution / possible delivery date.
Do not buy a Dell!! the dell duo is being returned for a full refund as i really dont want to deal with this companies call centre ever again.
The duo is very average, nothing special at all. touch screen is purely a gimmick and is pretty useless.
Good: Interesting idea
Comment: Just played with this in Dixons, Its just too much of a compromise to take on a proper tablet, bulky , heavy and awkward
Good: The device may be fine.....slow speed and poor touch software but....
Bad: Dell Telesales positively disgusting!!!
Comment: The device may be OK but I warn you DEll telesales is apalling-Absolutely apalling. they wouldn’t quote a delivery date without placing an order. they then gave a delivery date pre Christmas but placed the order and confirmed a delivery date in the new year. I cancelled the order before production began but they ignored my mail for a day then said it couldn’t be cancelled because it was in production. I ‘ve used them before but this is as bad as telephone sales gets!!!!!!!!!!!
Good: WOW GREAT VALUE
Comment: A TABLET AND A LAPTOP
U'RE MOVE NEXT APPLE
