50 CNET: When bands email Web sites
Imagine being a huge fan of Bruce Forsythe, then waking up one morning to find he'd emailed you to say he loves your Web site. Well it just happened to me.
It wasn't a Brucey Bonus, because I don't care for the doddery old fool, or his Strictly Come Z List. But rather it was a member of a band I admire with almost religious fervour -- Quo Vadis, a melodic death-metal band from Canada.
Now, my photographs around the site don't scream that I'm a huge supporter of death metal, but appearances can be deceptive. And it turns out that two members of Quo Vadis not only work in IT when not performing, but are dedicated readers of CNET, according to an email I received out of the blue from Roxy, one of the band.

He wrote: "It is a rare occurrence to encounter a fellow techie/metalist, so I just wished to thank you for your support and hope that you enjoy our material."
He continues, "Two of the band members -- Bart and myself -- work in IT [and] CNET is part of my 'morning papers' along with xkcd."
That was a much more enjoyable item in my inbox than the press release about an iPod-compatible vibrator, promoted to support Global Orgasm Day. That's right. I didn't know either.
So go and check out Quo Vadis and consider getting Grandma a CD for Christmas. Pensioners love death metal at this time of year.
