How do sound-isolating earphones work?
I'm frequently asked about sound-isolating earphones, how they work and what they're good for, and quite frankly I think they're something many people would benefit from using. For the benefit of all concerned, I felt it was time for the definitive, easily accessible guide to the pros and cons of this type of portable headphone. Click here for more

Meet the Pyro: Team Fortress 2's F student
The Pyro just runs around aimlessly blowing fire at people. One 'skill' of the Pyro is the 'hide around corners' technique, as the flamethrower does more damage at point-blank range. But I'm sorry: since when was waiting for an enemy to get close to you a skill? Oh, that's right -- it's not Click here for more

Games consoles cure cancer, Apple fails at simple activation

Hands-on with Tomb Raider Underworld, pre-alpha build
I was lucky enough to be given a preview of the brand-new Tomb Raider game yesterday -- Tomb Raider: Underworld -- due for release this November. As a pre-alpha build it was a long way from being finished, with only one level playable. But on a debugged Eidos Xbox 360 and a massive HDTV, I got to see the game in action. Click here for more

'Get well soon' costs 49p per minute to NHS hospitals
Calling a loved one in a UK hospital? It's cheaper to call a mobile phone in Japan. My father suffers from multiple sclerosis and is currently lying in an NHS hospital bed. He's miserable, as you might guess. If, like I did, you want to call a suffering family member in one of over 150 UK hospitals that use Patientline's bedside TV, Internet and phone service, it'll cost you 49p per minute from a BT land line at peak rate. That's more to call a bedside across town than it costs to call someone on the other side of the globe. Click here for more
