Lenovo ThinkVision L1940p
With a practical and elegant design, the 19-inch ThinkVision L1940p LCD monitor is a great overall performer, and is especially good at handling movies, although picture quality could be better when running games. Despite offering a lower resolution than some rivals, the L1940p has the edge

ViewSonic VX1962wm
The ViewSonic VX1962wm monitor is a sleek, 19-inch display with good gaming performance and unusually high resolution at 1,680x1,050 pixels. It has its fair share of problems, however, including a relatively high £145 price tag. Find out if this could be the monitor for you

Samsung SyncMaster 940UX
Don't expect loads of extras on the Samsung SyncMaster 940UX. But in its ability to connect via USB, this plain Jane of a 19-inch monitor is perfectly suited for your dual screen needs. If you're looking to expand your workspace to include a second screen -- or more, this simple monitor could fit nicely

HP W2007v
HP has brought its consumer-friendly 'make the computer personal again' approach to its monitors with the good-looking, zero-frills W2007v. This 20-inch TFT screen might lack extras such as an integrated webcam, but its low price and good image quality are excellent recommendations

BenQ FP94VW
The BenQ FP94VW is a 19-inch flat-panel monitor built especially for games. It's not just about a fast 5ms response time -- BenQ has incorporated a range of video modes optimised for different game genres, and there's HDMI input for games consoles, too

Asus LS201
The Asus LS201 has a reinforced glass panel, making it ideal if you've got unruly children or if you're an exec who's prone to a few stressful outbursts. It looks good too, but you'll have to decide whether its image quality is up to your standards

LG Flatron L1960TR
LG's stylish Black Jewel monitor is the leader of the pack in terms of high contrast. It produces a contrast ratio of 3,000:1, making it great for seeing all the detail in hi-def movies, and a 2ms response time ensures no blurring

Viewsonic ViewDock VX1945wm
ViewSonic's ViewDock VX1945wm is an attractive monitor that comes with an integrated iPod dock. The display is pretty good -- its 5ms response time ensures there's no ghosting -- but you may be disappointed by the sound quality

LG Fantasy Ring
LG's Fantasy Ring is awesome to look at and has picture quality to match. We found it difficult to fault during everyday desktop use or when watching movies, such was its excellent picture quality

Dell E207WFP
Dell's E207WFP's design is pleasing to the eye -- it has a thin outer bezel finished in matte black and its controls are sensibly located. Under the surface, however, it's not all rosy. Its image quality lets it down and the colour reproduction is awful. And now priced at £272 rather than the £155 first listed, it's not so much of a bargain after all
