"Don't believe the hype"
What I like:
The potential of a touch screen device
What I don't like:
The software, LG design
Review:
This is an awful phone, it's slow, clunky and has little going for it other than the hardware.
The Viewty fails on consistency, some menus can be scrolled by directly touching the list to move up and down, others have to be used with either the teeny, tiny scroll bar or with the just as clumsy jog wheel on the reverse of the phone.
This wouldn't be so bad if the interface actually was fluid, LG have used Adobe Flash (awful), taps and drags are the only gestures the phone makes use of, but each and every tap is answered with a pause and stutter before it finally responds. A good illustration of this can be seen by bringing up the alarm from the home screen, this is not a phone for the impatient.
Battery life is good, but then how would any Viewty owner really know as other than a vague meter at the top of the screen, there is no other indication. There's no percentage full, no battery health and I have had the phone switch off hours after being left unused and displaying 2/4 bars.
If you're brave, this hardware and software mess is taken to your computer, the supplied PC software is Microsoft Windows only (no Apple Mac?), but then no sane Mac user would want this wreck anyway. The install was baffling and finally reached the unintuitive software, for what? I wanted to make safe copies of my text messages, sadly, the help files specifically states it reads text messages as well as emails, it doesn't.
Why limit text messages, both sent and received, counting long texts too, to 300? I bought an additional 2 GB SD card, why not make use of that? There are many other complaints I could name, but with LG (like most phone companies other than Apple) reluctant to ever update the phone software, why bother, it will never be fixed.
The good reviews and comments? They are either easily impressed or simply have no idea. I regret taking this phone.
