Camera phones are quickly catching up with their standalone counterparts. Gone are the super-grainy pictures of old that you required you to squint to see properly. Now you can take photos and make phone calls with one device instead of two.
At the moment, the latest camera phones pack 5-megapixel shooters and some come with a variety of features including xenon flashes that let you take pictures in low light, GPS and HSDPA (3.5G) for super-fast access to the Internet.
If you're wondering whether a 5-megapixel camera phone is as good as a high-end 5-megapixel camera, the answer is no. The biggest problem with camera phones is that they need to squash everything into a relatively small space and this means no room for large sensors or optics.
As long as you don't expect to take exceedingly high-quality shots, you won't be disappointed. We've picked a a selection of 5-megapixel camera phones, which are all worth checking out.
Make sure to read our reviews of all of them first though before you decide which one to buy. You might find one or two factors that put you off or make you fall in love with these megapixel monsters.

| Review summary | We don't like how the N82 looks and we're not keen on its keypad, but it's such a good phone in terms of features that we're prepared to overlook its aesthetic shortcomings. This is how the N95 should've been -- from the camera to the GPS, everything works as you expect it to. Fingers crossed Nokia manages to squash all of this into a smaller, more attractive handset next time round Read full review |
LG has learnt from its mistakes and come up with a phone that not only looks good but works well. While some of the features are gimmicky, we think it gets the balance right and hope to see more phones like this in the future Read full review |
The Tocco is a stylish handset with a wealth of features, including a 5-megapixel camera and HSDPA support. It's not quite an iPhone killer, but it's still one of the best touchscreen phones around Read full review |
The C902's 5-megapixel camera takes very good shots, but they're not quite sharp enough to rival those from a dedicated digital camera. Nevertheless, it's still a great phone that's packed with cool features and blessed with a gorgeously stylish design Read full review |
