Good: The IDEA of having a phone that is an organiser, being able to surf and to check e-mails
Bad: The fact that the Vario III cna not do any of the above very well at all! IF EVER
Comment: My Husband and I both boiught a Vario III on contract from T-Mobile June 2008
We both really needed a phone that could go on the internet and downlaod e-mails and could store Diary tasks etc. for our job.
Since we have owned the phones they have been back to T-Mobile for repairs 3 times
They freeze (you can't close programmes or texts down).
If you want to surf it takes forever to log onto the internet (even on our own home wifi router) when you are searching it just sits there thinking about it, it can take 5-10 minutes sometimes to log onto a page or else it will try for ages and then just lock up the whole phone.
Downloading e-mails we don't seem to have had many problems with.
At one time it wouldn't play any sounds for Alarms, Reminders, Texts, Missed calls but it would do incoming calls.
To make a call is a pain in the back ****! you have to press this that and the other (but people have said that is a pain with PDA's)
When you do try to make a call 1st the onsceen keypad doesn't accept every key you press so you you have to press a key make sure its accepted it then press the next on and so on.
2nd you can dial the no. and it says in the screen it is dialling but there is no sound on the phone at all. I t can say it is connected but with no sound you can't talk to any one.
3rd it says it is dialling with or without sound and then after a while you will hear a bong! and when you look at the screen the phone has switched itself to the "comm manager page" and you can see it has turned off the phone icon, so you have to switch it back on again.
4th you make a call and you can be in the middle of talking to someone and it can do any of the above.
If you receive an incoming call and you press the answer key on screen it cuts the call off.
I can't see that everyone out there isn't having the same troubles as us because our phones are so perfectly matched that they both gowrong at more or less the same time as each other. Our last little adventure was a few weeks ago we were both at home neede to dial out and send a text and there was NO SIGNAL whatsoever on both handsets we just couldnt use them all day, the phones were saying that they were searching for network.
We have other mobiles which have pay as you go t-mobile sims in them both of those phones were working perfectly! we then put our Vario III sims into the pay as you go phones and they worked perfectly.
How is it possible that only 2 MDA Vario III handsets (made by HTC) could both go wrong in the same way on the same day surely there must have been a whole batch atleast that suffer as much problem as we do.
On this particular day we contacted T-Mobile and as usual they just said take it into the shop and send it away to be repaired (4th time) when I asked if I could now have a replacement phone they said No! they said they were just going to UPGRADE THE SOFTWARE!!! which is what they do every single time and so when I got angry with them they suggested that I contacted HTC direct, which I did.
How these phones have not gone through the window I do not know.
Our next phone are going to be "iPhones"
I would just like to say Hooray for HTC the most obliging, helpfull efficient company I have delt with in a very long time, they e-mailed me information straight away to put into the parcel to post both handsets back to them explaining exactly how the system works, when they said they would repair the handsets iff possible I instantly asked you are not just going to replace the software are you "when we repair a phone I guarantee you will get it back working".
We had the phones delivered back in a couple of days they had replaced all the innards (motherboard etc) so we shall have to see how this goes!
watch this space!!!!!
