Good: cam, screen, call reception, weight, design, PRICE!

Bad: tad plasticky, no manual ISO setting.

Comment: Feels ace in your hand while making (very clear) calls. Costs loads less than S2 (I picked mine up for 12,200 baht - 244 quid). Battery lasts 20 odd hours with heavy use, which is very good. This should have nicked the phone of the year award. Buy it!

Good: speed, design, future potential

Bad: nothing bar a user created aesthetic issue. Apparently galaxy s WiFi is better.

Comment: I own this phone and believe this to be a slightly biased review. Although this is not futureproof it is a very good first attempt at a flagship. Remember the x8 was only released around 18-20 months ago I believe. They were Sony's first android realistically and also first true touchscreen for the public, as opposed to the early xperia that were very business related and had a price tag.to match. However even so we.expect a lot from Sony.

I had been a huge fan until about 6 months after I got my x8. I was severely disappointed.it's being left behind. So I considered an iPhone, but cannot stand Apple's arrogance in still making there products exclusively for there software, whereas android gives the same quality O.S practically but for free and compatible with everything else on the planet. The iPhone's exclusivity shall be its.downfall. But I saw the arc and fell in love. And when I decided.to buy it, it was 15 quid a month, but nowhere to be found? Why? To get rid of them and make room for the s. A stupid mistake I'm sure they regret, as the s sells for less than the original. When I thought if the lack of continuation slowly creeping up the line, the arc has no worries well into the mid teenies.

Yes the case is a tad flimsy, IF YOU MESS AROUND WITH IT. It is not a child's plaything and as such should be treated with respect.

The camera is awe.inspiring, it really is, and I have only ever once seen one so up to date, in the old cybershot.

The GUI is somewhat... Unique but as with all XPERIA's is far.easier to use than the galaxy's, which follows this iPhone's.idea of no home screen just app windows, which provides little detailed info and just looks tacky.

The only real problem I have is that the size of the screen makes the space bar a stretch and therefore I often end up with commas or full stops as opposed to empty spaces.

Yes it will be inadequate in 5 years but unless you have too much money or are just plain stupid, you get it on contract, and therefore can get a free, up to date replacement at any point after 2 years making this irrelevant. Sony have been stubborn and have just tried android, and in my opinion, it went well. The s2 was a hell of a long time after its predecessor, and Samsung have realistically made nothing else till very recently, leaving the slightly less endowed without. XPERIA started cheap, went big, then filled the gaps for all kinds of people in all different finincial statii, and the phone is blisteringly quick now, it is,a good starting benchmark for them

Oh and your reports in the battery are absolute tosh. I use.mine normally, checking out facebook, downloading things as the feeling takes me, txting a hell of a lot although I dint call people that often.

However my battery will happily last from dusk to dawn with normal use, 2 days with restricted use.and has, without any use beyond the necessary lasted 5 days without charge. What you must remember is you abuse the phones and run them as fast.as.possible for a short period of time, which is bound to affect battery life negatively.

Let it warm into your daily routine first

I own it

Good: Better Processor

Bad: No real difference to original

Comment: I'd just like to say that i have the original and my friend has the new s, and after playing with her phone i can safely say there no real difference in the phones.

Both the original and the s have the same firmware as Sony Ericsson send out regular updates and on comparison the only difference are small differences in the GUI animations.

I'd also like to point out that theres still the playback issue with bbc iplayer which still is not resolved even with the s.

The only reason i'm giving it half a star instead of 5 stars is the fact that apart from the processor there is no real difference and my phone (the original) has yet to come across any app which causes it's own processor issues so there was no real need for this re-release.

Not for me

Good: speed

Bad: not found any yet

Comment: I don't use or want a front facing camera, so I’m not bother that this phone hasn't got one.

I had a few goes on this phone and as an arc user, the speed of arc s is very noticeable. Starting up the camera is much quicker and the swipe texting feature is a great addition.

sonyericsson phones are growing from strength to strength.

Good: Luscious screen, fast and responsive, great camera

Bad: Back cover creaks and seems thin. Otherwise, nothing that can't be fixed by downloading the right app.

Comment: I chose this over the Galaxy S2 becuase in store the screen actually looked better on the Arc - plus the camera is better. I'm glad I did - everything looks amazin on this phone.

I don't know what dual core is supposed to add but everything I've tried is speedy on this phone. The only downside on the hardware side is that the back cover flexes and clicks - very thin plastic. I got an HDMI cable in with mine, though.

The camera seems to over-expose (I get this on my Sony compact camera too, so perhaps is the Sony way). Videos are fabulous although a little slow to focus.

I wish Android gave more control over data roaming, but that's not SE's fault. The built-in software seems pretty good. Battery-life is so-so. I've been using it quite intensively and getting about a day out of it.
