Good: Excellent camera

Bad: terrible PC software, terrible operating system

Comment: The only decent point of this phone is the camera. I thought I would be upgrading when I changed from a Nokia N95, but what a disappointment. The Nokia has GPS, can be used as a mobile modem, and talks to Macs as well as PCs. The games are free. You can even make a phone call with it. With the Pixon, as soon as you get to one of those exchanges where you press 1 for this and 2 for that you take it from your ear and find the screen is already blank. You then have to press the screen to restore it, the hold button to release the available functions and then the screen again to bring up the keypad. Do these designers ever actually use their kit? The GPS puts you within a mile of your actual position, which may be OK in the Sahara, but is not a lot of use in town. One might as well not bother, which is what the user manual thinks, because the subject of GPS does not appear there at all. Nor does it mention the infuriating habit of the photo browser of sliding all the pictures rapidly past the screen if you tilt the phone slightly. Getting to the picture you want is a real pain. The PC suite software is the worst written bit of programming I have come across in a long time.
I'm going back to the N95. It's not got a touch screen and the camera is medium, but it is an excellent phone and the GPS does work.

Good: Camera, simple and easy interface, widgets, music features(digital surround sound-etc), design, keyboard.

Bad: Games, touch screen (sometimes), the fact that you get nearly no support for apps etc.

Comment: I like the look of the phone alot. I now have it in a Noir luxe case and it is very usable. The camera is brilliant-for a phone. It is about as good as a 4-5 megapixel camera. The panaramafeatures is really good and makes great pictures. I have bought a moblle phone telescope for it as well-it makes its poor zoom a litle better. The best thing about the phone is the easy, simple and fun interface. Wheras on windows mobile everything is complicated, this is amazing sinple. The calender is great andi even has a widget for the home screen. This is not a buisness phone, its a multimedia device. Camera is good, the music sound is better than an ipods and the browser is not bad either. The new pc studio is great for me. Calender, music, pictures- they all work fine. Other reviewers criticise the email in pc studio- but i use gmail and didnt have a problem. Overall his is great phone for teenagers and adults who arent looking for great buisness (if you are get a htc touch pro2) features and anybody who wants a great all rounder.

Good: Camera is really good + GPS works GREAT if you download free Gmaps

Bad: New Samsung Studio - worst piece of software I have ever seen!

Comment: I totally agree with jewie404 above. DON'T what ever you do try to use it with outlook - duplicated entries are inevitable.
New PC studio is the worst software I have ever seen - I trusted Samsung as my previous U600 used PC Studio which is a solid and good product. What idiot in Samsung decided to write a new version and give it such a catchy new name? There has been virtually no improvement since its release in November 08 - I guess that this is a dead end product and that there will be no improvement. Use New PC Studio with Outlook at your own risk!

re GPS - I can confirm that the Orange and Google maps are rubbish as they give your location to 500mtr. Orange has the nerve to charge for this!

HOWEVER, Mobile Gmaps is free and does give accurate locations!

Overall - I bought this phone under advice from Orange to integrate with Outlook - New PC Studio has been a disastrous step for Samsung, and their lack of effort in correcting its serious flaws, is more than disappointing - I will find it hard to trust them again.....

Good: Camera

Bad: GPS and PIM

Comment: Now, I’ve got one recently and was having rather high expectations to use it as my PIM gadget, the ultimate device for all my contacts, notes, schedules and emails. My advice is don’t. Reading on all the specifications, GPS, 8 megapixels autofocus camera and all, it was a phone good on paper for a very good price compared with the others. The plus side is that the camera is so full of functions, you will have heaps of fun toying around with advance features like face detection, smile shots and such. That’s all there is to this phone, a very powerful camera system.

GeoTagging of photos, I took 2 weeks to figure it out. Firstly you have to turn on the GeoTagging feature in the camera settings. And by accident I discovered GeoTagging does work. Only after turning on the camera for 3 minutes or so before I noticed the satellite dish icon showed a 2 bar stable status and stayed that way. If the icon is in a transition state, it means the GPS receiver is still trying to log on to the GPS signals. One does really need to hold the phone high, run around a little and try all sorts of holding the phones in all imaginable orientation just to get GPS logged on. If a picture is successfully tagged, you can see the long-lat information via the info functions while browsing photos. Loading the image into Picassa/Google Earth is also another way to know if your pictures had been tagged. When you have successfully tagged pictures (one out of 15 times), it could be quite fun to view them in Google Erath. Bringing GPS features further, using Google Maps, just waiting for GPS to logon while driving is a nightmare. It is especially a big pain in my *** when near critical traffic junctions, the blue dot remained very still on the screen as the Pixon had lost it GPS signal. Which means, Samsung did a very bad job here, on this GPS thingy. They could have done better.

What about the organizer? One will orgas with frustration just to make it working. The great Samsung New PC Studio is truly a software written just to corrupt your Outlook. I ended up with 800 over double entries in my contact list (both outlook and in Pixon) and all my calendar schedules were squeezed into one single day after a synch. I had to spend one whole day just to restore all my schedules and contacts manually in my Outlook after the synch. I never want to use this poorly written and untested software ever again. No way could one trust Samsung on this one.

Samsung, they did a nice product and that’s about it. Cosmetically appealing, but functionally, very annoying. It’s more of a phone for the camera and that is the only good thing about it. Don’t expect good software skills from Koreans. This product seemed rushed into the market with appealing paper specs to compete with others, but without much sensible functional testing. Use this only as a fashion and camera gadget. Pixon - a partially functioning phone guarantee to drive you mad if you use it for more then a phone (especially GPS).

Good: Camera, Video Performance, Looks

Bad: Turns itself off sometimes, volume on video recordings, No audio on Macbook with videos.

Comment: First of all to help the other reviewer -

1. You have to press the screen quite hard when scrolling or the phone doesn't recognize your finger. ( Takes getting used to ).

2. To get a capital on a word - before typing it press the T9 key ( bottom middle and select T9 Abc ) then type your word.

3. With ref to the alarm tone - (This is how you would do it starting a new schedule)

Organiser
Calender
Create Schedule
Set Title/Date/Time
Alarm On
Set Details
Alarm Tone
Sounds
Select what tone you want
Add
Save
Save Again

To change the alarm tone on an already entered schedule just select the day and -
Press the time of the schedule in the bottom
Then Press the Schedule again
Then Edit
Then Set Details
Etc.

To change a normal alarm tone simply go to -
Alarms
Alarm On
Create Alarm
Set Details
Alarm Tone
Etc as above.

Now down to my thoughts -

The camera is excellent and so is the video performance. But the problems I have found are -

The audio on videos recorded by the phone isn't quite as loud as I would like.

When I transfer a video to my Macbook I can't get any sound.( Help !? )

Another problem is the phone turns itself off sometimes ( probably every other day ). This is annoying me !. Might be a software problem ?.

All in all the touchscreen works well, the camera and video are Superb. So I am very happy with the phone.

Good: Camera, looks, sounds

Bad: lack of customisation, frustrating scrolling thing

Comment: Just got the phone yesterday and so far so good. Review above is accurate although 2 things frustrate me. When scrolling through the contacts/pics/menus it isnt always that great as it can be a bit slow you keep selecting things when you are trying to whizz thru them so takes AGES to locate the one you want! Its like the Ipod touch or the iphone in that you whizz your finger up the screen to scroll thru and it isnt always accurate.

Second if anyone else has this phone please help me! When texting HOW ON EARTH do you put a capital letter in the middle of the sentence? So if you wanted to say "My friend James" how do you get the capital J for James?? You can change to capitals, select the J then change back to lower case but then you have to type "ames" seperately to the J so it wont save it as a word! So annoying! With my Samsung Soul you just hit the bottom left button to make the first letter of any word captial and the rest of the letters follow in lower case but dont know how to do this on the Pixon.

Apart from that I am a bit disappointed that the only customising you can do is changing your wallpapaer. You cant have different themes or screen savers and you cant have the menus in list form instead of that grid form either which you could do with the Soul. You also get 1 alarm tone that you cant change and minmal options for built in message tones.

I have 7 days to decide if I want to keep it and I am 50:50 at the mo. I f I am mising something on any of the above please tell me!
