Good: camera and the way it looks

Bad: software

Comment: I have had this phone for over 6 months and had many problems. The phone is so slow, especially when it comes to apps and games. There's even a couple second delay on the camera. It freezes regularly and for the second time now, the whole touch screen has broken. If I click on one app it takes me to another, and I can't type a text or email as the letters get scrambled up completely. Initially recommended this phone to two or three people who are now also experiencing similar problems. Would not recommend again.

Good: Performance, screen, price.

Bad: Camera, internal Storage.

Comment: -At first i was a little aprehensive about the only 800mhz processor, even if it was dual core. I was considering some others alternatives with 1ghz, including the single core Xperia J wich was much more slower and laggy than the ace2, even with the bigger and brighter screen of the Sony i decided to go with the ACE2. I made the right choice, this phone has a VERY SMOOTH operation, every app runs smoothly and flawlessly, menu and touch responses are excellent and the dual core allows you to play 720p x264 videos up to profile 5.0 16ref and 16b frames with mkv containner and multichannel audio without drop frames and hardware aceleration. (10bit decoding is possible only with sofware decoding and resolution around 480~540p.)
- 3D is acceptable if you consider the price tag, it has the same GPU from the first Galaxy S (6 year old), so mid-tier to upper-tier games are possible to play (GTA III, NFS and even PSXe and 64 emulation) but even the 3 year old Iphone 4 destroys this phone in this department.
- Screen is very nice, i'm particularly fan of 3:2 and 16:10 aspect ratios, too bad we don´t have a litte more resolution like 960x540, still with the vanilla 480p you get a very sharp image with decent dpi since this is a small phone with 3.8 screen. Since it has a top-of-the-edge PLS and not the gimmick amoled, the maximun brighteness is very good as well as viewing angles and color reproduction. Only downside, that is expectable on non-amoled phones is the black level. The phone can be use in direct contact with sunlight with max brighteness with i believe is more important.
- Battery is above what you would expect from a compact smartphone, will last the whole day with extensive use of 3g and games, but you'll have to charge it on the next day.
- The downside is the camera. camera apps keep crashing in my phone and thus needing restarting of the phone every other time i try to take more than a couple of photos. Jpegs looks murky even on daylight and the worst of all, is video recording. 720p my ass. While there is enough information on the sensor to give more than 720p lines of video resolution, the image processor used for compress video is AWFULL. lots of aliasing, and video looks completely blur and washed out. I tried to look for a better video recording software than the samsung's stock one and there simple ISN´T ANYONE around. Android applications, specialy those that use external modules and graphic chip are very weak even now in 2013 compared to IOS.
The phone DOESN`T have a gyroscope and the compass is very inacuratte, to the point i wondered if it came with malfunction, but i can´t RMA it just because of that.
-The only other flaw i can give to it is the fact that it can´t install applications on the external SD, the system says you can move apps to the "SD CARD" , but this "sd card" is actually just another partition of the internal memory of the phone, with is already relative low (4gb, 2gb free for the user). This is apparently a problem with several samsung phones that use android 2.3.x and can be fixed with root, but only a minor part of us wants to root to get acess to such a basic functionality you'd expect out of the box.

If you don´t care much about photos in your smartphone, this is the best bang for the buck at it's price range, i think is even better than the S3 mini if you aren´t particularly fan of amoled like me. (Maybe the moto d3 is a good call but i have bad experiences with quality build of motorollas, before this one i had the Defy+, highly aclaimmed cellphone by lots of reviewers. Broke down in 4 months and was extremely sluggish).

Good: Screen. Now a lot cheaper (especially if it's your wife's contract hand-me-down!).

Bad: Plasticky (I've been used to HTCs).

Comment: Since this review was written, it now seems that Ace 2 will get JellyBean probably around April/May in the UK, and you can find out how to get the 'leaked' version of this elsewhere. I've got mine running 4.1.2 without much drama just by following the instructions by Alan Martin on "How to root the Samsung Galaxy Ace 2". You then more or less repeat the process for the 'leaked files' which removes 'root' as it does it from what I can see.

Good: EVERYTHING

Bad: NOTHING

Comment: CHEAP TO BUY AND USING ON O2 SIM ONLY. EASY TO SET UP, EASY TO TEXT USING VOICE IMPUT, GOOD BATTERY LIFE-2/3 DAYS OF USE .FAST INTERNET CONNECTION, ON MY SECOND ONE-FIRST WAS LOST AND INSURERS REPLACED WITH SAME PHONE-WHICH I INSISTED ON. HAS A TASK MANAGER FUNCTION WHICH CLOSES OPEN APPS AND REDUCES RAM WHICH LOWERS BATTERY USAGE. ALL IN ALL: A SUPERB 'PHONE.

Comment: It has the potential to be a good smartphone for a fairly reasonable price, but I guess there is a price to pay after all... I got my phone from phone4u, and happily returned home with the hope to get it up and running. No matter how hard I tried - the phone wouldn't connect to KIES software which is like iTune for iPhone. I tried to resolve that, I really did! phoned the tech team at phone4u, contacted Samsung technical support and even made long searches online. NADA!
eventually Phone4U told me I can exchange the phone since it's probably faulty and that they had never encountered such a problem. I seriously doubt that now..after exchanging my phone for a similar one, the problem repeated itself. So now (after wasting all this time and money on the non-free customer service line charge) I am returning the phone for good.
There are few more problems with this phone, such as not regaining reception after coming out from the tube (unless I switch it off and on again), this is a repeated problem as I understand from other people on those forums I was searching. Another problem I had is the fact that the phone does not support Hebrew and as much as I tried to download a fix, it wasn't perfect.
If the above problems will be solved, it's a nice smartphone, but until Samsung will be more vigilant in its approach to resolve these problem - this phone(is not)4Me.

Not for me

Good: Pretty much everything

Bad: Battery could be better

Comment: Bought this phone a couple of months ago and can't fault it. Good size, good camera, fast etc. Might still run Gingerbread at the moment but Samsung have confirmed a Jelly Bean update for the Ace 2. Can't see myself changing phone for a good while now.

I own it
