Good: Size and therefore usability

Bad: Car charging issues, proximity sensors don't seem to do their job, loud speaker

Comment: I figured this phone would remove the need for me to carry a netbook around as I need to regularly make very basic website updates. The streak is brilliant for this, I can do so much more website stuff than I could on my iPhone due to the screen size.

On the down side, it seems to be so power hungry that even when turning off WiFi, Bluetooth and Data, my car charger could not provide power quickly enough to allow me to use the device for gaming or even calling. I was really confused by this as it can be used for SatNav so I checked it was actually charging - which it was. For me, mains charging this device is the only reliable option.
The other irritating point is that the proximity sensor, or system, doesn't seem to be doing its job. When calling, my cheek naturally made contact with the screen, but this contact was registered (I think the touch screen is meant to be deactivated when the proximity sensors sense that the phone is held close to an object - e.g. your face). As a result I regularly found my phone started doing other things mid call e.g. turn on Airplane mode.. which, as I said earlier, is fairly irritating.

After 12 days I've decided to send the phone back. I love it, and wanted to love it even more, but there are one or two basic issues. Oh, and the loud speaker is terrible - don't think you can make crystal clear calls on loudspeaker, understanding the other person is tough.

Overall this is a really promising phone though, for a first attempt I think Dell have done brilliantly - bring on the next version of the Streak please!!

Good: nothing

Bad: If lose the backcover you cant replace it and it will not work?

Comment: Do not buy it, if you lose the back cover, dell support will not allow you to buy a replacement and the Streak will not work. I just bought one and I have lost the back cover and they told me there is no replacement, what a waste of my money???What do they expect me to buy another one???
They have the worst support, I called and emailed and no proper answer. I had to call a manager to find out that they do not offer a replacement back cover???? Amazing you can replace the battery but not the backcover and the Streak will not work without a cover???????

Good: i also own an iphone 3gs, but i find that as a forty year old in need of reading glasses the iphone is far to small to use as a reader and far too small in terms of video, the streak wins hands down for me over the iphone not in terms of applications but when you use the streak you feel more at home as though you're using a mini laptop, i reccommend using a jabra clipper bluetooth headset with the streak if you will be making calls with it as obviously people laughing at you while you're on the phone isn't the best way to talk and the jabra just takes the streaks headphones so nobody even knows you have a bluetooth on they will think you're listening to music whic you can through the bluetooth until a call comes in, this way your tablet/smartphone/computer/palmtop??? can stay hidden away unles you want to play some of the excellent sized games or read a totally readable book. or as a completely brilliant and free sat nav system

Bad: i have found some niggles i must admit though if you get an item like this you should download and read the manual thoroughly you should head off most of small things that will go wrong i cannot for instance transfer my pictures taken with the streak to the desktop i use not sure whay but cannot find them on the phone memory card when its connected to the computer this could be down to my ignorance but i can't find anything to tell me how its done either, i had to send my pictures to my computer via email which ruins the pictures as it changes them from big files into small files.

Comment: i saw it as a must have as i was after a reader anyway and also needed a new satnav as mine had been stolen, this one won't be because it would never be left in the car glovebox when not being used :-/ i considered the ipad but its not reall something you can take out and about with you nor does it have the phone capability so i plumped for a contract streak which i have not regretted so far

Good: Large Screen,Quick Mobile internet, Loads of apps

Bad: Basically Hardware problems

Comment: Where do I start, you take the phone out the box and you think. It is a big phone but it will be great for using the internet and watching videos'. But several days after using the tablet the screen freezes when using the mp3 player, then you receive a call and the screen flashes call then goes blank so you cannot answer, and then you make a call and for the first 10 seconds you can hardly hear who you are talking to!!
So after all the problems I got a replacement and after charging the phone for 10 hours to be precise, I put the BRAND NEW 2nd Dell Streak on and the phone turns on. But the screen is still blank!!
I am so disappointed with the phone!! I had high expectations! I was so excited, I even made my girlfriend watch the demo video with me! Now, I am in two minds whether to get a 3rd BRAND NEW phone and hopefully, this one will work! Like they say ' 3rd time lucky'.....

Good: Large screen that is almost indestructable.

Bad: Android 1.6, choppy. unstable software (frequently crashes).

Comment: My experience was first soured by the lying salesman who assured me that the Dell Streak was running Android 2.1 (my fault - I should have checked online). I was furious when my Android crazy friend told me it was 1.6.

I have tried to keep an open mind while trying out this Android device, but it's a little difficult when simple things like browsing the web causes the browser (or phone) to crash. I can forgive the fact that scrolling a page on the Streak is choppy (nothing compares to iPhone/iPad in this regard as Apple use custom silicon), but when the browser hangs for no apparent reason, it gets quite frustrating and pushes the device into "borderline useless" category.

To finish on a good note - I find it a very useful media player. Unlike my Apple products, I can wire the unit up to my PC using the provided USB cable and copy music/films to the device's Micro-SD card, and then play this media on the go. However, I should point out that this didn't work out of the box. I'm not sure what media formats the device supports, but I believe I read something about H264/H264 and a couple of others on the side of the box. I still can't find an icon to start the Dell Media Player (Video Player). To cut a long story short, I eventually found an app called RockPlayer (the ads version is free) that has been capable of playing just about any non-HD video I've thrown at it. It did manage to play a HD video I tested it with, but it was so slow and choppy that it was unwatchable. I'm guessing that the Dell Streak does not include any kind of video hardware acceleration codecs.

I've only had the device for two days, and so far I can't really say I'm happy with it. It is possible that the salesman lying to me largely contributed to my dissatisfaction. It's like I have an expensive device with a lot of potential but have to wait for Android 2.1 or 2.2 before this potential will be harnessed.

Good: Android OS.++, Gorilla Glass, Slimline, Dual LED. Flash, 32GB Support, Sensible Size, (In the right Context).

Bad: No AMOLED, Quite Big for a Phone, the Buttons at the Bottom can get hit by accident, and the lack of Bluetooth Options even after Downloading Third Party Software, is a bit much.

Comment: I don't want to be writing a full review, at this time, as I think that People need this Information:

Isuma Mathias Lyonga, I think that Yours is an exception...
I don't think that Anyone else experiences what You do, with the Streak.
I'm impressed that You've managed to hit a dodgy one... Twice?

There's a Program for Your Battery, so that You can see how much Power that You're supposed to have, called, "Battery Information", by Toyyaa. (It's Free, in the Marketplace.).
It does a good Job...
At least have a look.

Simps, In the UK. We like our SatNavs.
When We get out of a Car, We take the SatNav with Us.
If You have a Car, and a SatNav, how is replacing Your Mobile Phone, and a SatNav, with a Dell Streak, getting You Comments like that?
(And how big is the I-Pad?).
Please, set Them straight

You can pair a Bluetooth Headset with the Streak, easily.
It also comes bundled with Stereo Ear-Phones, and Microphone... On a Wire.

Someone was complaining about a lack of BBC. I-Player.
It's called, "Myplayer", it works well. (It's Free at the Marketplace, too.).

Someone else was griping about a lack of Skype..?

Good: absolutely nothing

Bad: everything

Comment: rubbish! I mean the dell streak is absolutely rubbish. after using an iphone 3g for two years i thought i had enough of it as the first one i got broke dow within three months. I was given a free replacement one which also started to play up after a while. Then i got into trouble that I wanna try something new - the so called dell streak. I got the first one, less than two weeks down the line the ear piece was gone. I went back to O2 and got a replacement one. I am not a great mobile surfer yet charging the battery twice a day just doesn't suffice as the phone still goes off due to low batter before the close of the day. As if that is not bad enough, you can have an incoming call and the phone stays on standby so you can not answer the call. furthermore, the phone can wake you up in the middle of the night when it starts vibrating like mad and the only way you can stop that is to remove the battery and fit it back again. Also, the phone can decide not to respond to commands as many times as it wishes. Well, I thought all these were things I could deal with but then it happened again. I recharge my mobile for several hours and went out. A few hours later it give me the damn low battery signal. By the time I got home (about one hour later) the phone was dead and right now as I am writing this review, the dell streak is dead and wouldn't power on despite several hours of recharging. As if I do not have enought to do, I have to pop into the O2 shop again. I have used smart phones like apple iphone, samsung and nokia... in my opinion dell has not even started the journey as long as smart phones are concerned and to be honest with you, steer well clear of the Hell Streak and save yourself not only the money but a whole lot of trouble too...

Good: screen, speed, battery life

Bad: Dom Jolly jibes

Comment: having swapped from iPhone to Streak, I am in two minds about this.

its faster than the 3g I was using, the screen is better and obviously bigger, the Kindle app is usable without eyestrain for example. the marketplace is a mess and not well supported by the "big guys" for example I cannot replicate my iphone apps for NatWest banking, Skype (very disappointing), my favourite footy and cricket news services, etc etc.

google nav is available and works OK although the text to speech synthesis leaves something to be desired, its always going to lag in weak 3g areas and will be unusable abroad. will need to investigate 3rd party apps, I ran Co-Pilot and Navigon on the iphone.

tyhe biggest gripe is the price of accessories... £23 for a sync cable, £54 for a car mount, and this after dell reduced prices! I spose the chinese guys will catch up sooner or later and the £1.99 items will eventually appear on E-Bay.

Ultimate wish... a converter for iPhone to Dell 30 pin plugs or even female apple to female usb, we all have the apple accessories, it would be a shame to junk them all!

conclusion; iPhone just works, as with all androids this takes some effort, hope its worth it in the long run, lets see what 2.2 brings or I might be lining Mr Jobs pockets again!

I own it
