Good: Amazing battery life & Always connected

Bad: Silver trim scratches very easily, case is not well designed.

Comment: Please ignore the review giving this phone 1.0 he/she/troll obviously does not own a blackberry to comment as he says nothing about it. Cnet should not allow BS reviews like that.

This is an awesome phone for people who just do not like silly touchscreens, I can write out a text faster than any iPhone user and the predictive works a treat and is trainable. The keyboard is spot on, much better than the Nokia rival.

The battery life is excellent, considering the blackberry uses GPRS most of the time to check for messages etc. I get a full week of use before charging. Though the case helps with this by putting the screen to sleep.
Also very practical is the charging dock, it works like a cordless phone and eliminates wear/damage to the micro usb socket. Displaying a clock in the process turning the phone into an alarm clock.

The camera is decent for 3.2mp and the high res screen looks great as you can set your font tiny and it's still clear.

The optical scroll pad is genius and 200% better than the previous ball.
This is the only phone so far I have owned that works properly with my live mail account, and delivers messages instantly! The apps though need work and the catalogue cannot begin to rival those on the iPhone.

I have had a Renoir, Jet, HTC Touch Pro, N95 and this thrashes them all.

Good: Email accessability

Bad: Camera lag

Comment: Atter getting hooked on getting s phone with the best camera (which I rarely used), I decided it was time to get something useful, and as my job situation changed, that meant having my emails close to hand.
After looking at various phones (iPhone - not paying silly-tarrif money, HTC Hero - can't deal with touch screen as my hands are like shovels!) I took the plunge and went for the Blackberry Bold 9700, although this was with some trepidation as the salesman informed me "... it's the way things are now - you're going to have to choose a QWERTY or a touch screen."
Now, being large in the finger department (think sausages) I struggle to use a touch screen as I hit more than one key at a time, but the Bold's QWETRTY keypad proved something of a revelation. I could use the keypad without my messages looking like a drunk monkey had gotten hold of my phone. Yes, admittedly, it took some getting used to and yes, ocassionally I still hit the odd wrong key, but on the whole, it's relatively fault free.
My only gripe is the camera shutter lag. For spur of the moment photographs it takes a fraction too long so that either the moment has passed, or you move the camera too soon resulting in a blurred image.
To sum up, lots of very good features and very useful in my day to day life, with one or two slight glitches.
If RIM sort these issues out in future phones, they can expect my business for the foreseable future.

Good: Elegant compared to Bold 9000, better OS 5.0, more RAM, better LCD resolution

Bad: Keypad, smaller than Bold 9000 and step down from Bold 9000; smaller LCD screen but only 0.8cm less wide viewing area.

Comment: I couldn't wait for the Bold 9700. Having had the Bold 9000 for 16 months, with numerous problems: frequent crashing: back cover falling off; USB socket becoming 'rusty' as set in chrome lining; too little flash (125Mb), I just paid the price outright. The new bold is elegant, it does NOT have the antiquated ugliness of the Bold 9000, however the screen looks small - or is it? LCD viewing area height is exactly the same, the width however is shorter by 0.8cm. That may be an extra icon worth on the task bar (9000 has six large ones compared to 9700 six small). However the screen resolution is a big wow compared to Bold 9700. The keypad has the same feel and pressure/response as the original Bold, albeit smaller, I'd say 2/3rds the size of the original Bold - however, perfectly reasonable for two thumb typing. Font sizes can be adjusted anyway, so screen size becomes a NO BIG DEAL. Internet can become an eyesore but the trackpad is more responsive than the trackball on the original Bold and magnification works just as well. The new desktop manager allows for changing from one device to another EFFORTLESSLY and the new OS on the Bold 9700 is worth its weight in gold. The increased flash RAM is manna from heaven as apps are less likely to crash. The settings have been extended and manipulating them requires some technical knowledge of BlackBerry. Apps: upgrade to Docs To Go Premium with desktop migration support; Bloomberg mobile (stock watching); Stitcher (streaming radio); Restart me or QuickPull Pro to reboot without removing the battery cover; Text Scheduler/TXT later for delaying texts; AlertMatrix for flagging important calls/texts/emails etc.; Evernote (great note keeper with web sync); FileScout (free, although OS 5 has its own file manager now); Google Sync for Google Calendar; VIP Access (free) for extra security if using PayPal or eBay; myCopernic for searching your desktop for files rather than use a potentially in-secure remote access; Cortado SMS2Desk for free routing of SMS to your email account; Poynt for local searches using GPS; and Quick Launcher where you can access as many apps etc from one icon!

Good: Size, Track Pad, Screen, menus, applications

Bad: Mono Keyboard (numbers were in RED on my original Bold), Vlingo doesn't work on this device!

Comment: * The keyboard is smaller than the 9000. and the keys are all white on black.
* Screen is excellent
* The trackpad takes some getting use to, but is much better than the ball!
* All the menus are standard BB.
* App store isn't the size / shape of others, but has some good business focused apps.
* It's annoying Vlingo doesn't work yet, particularly as I've paid for the PRO Version!!
