Leaving my laptop at home
I'm on holiday for the next two weeks, and although I'm packing my camera(s), MP3 player, handheld and phone, along with an electronic spaghetti and meatballs of cables and chargers, I'll be leaving my laptop at home. 'Getting away from it all' does mean leaving a few things behind.
However, I will be digging out a gadget I don't normally carry: the Epson P-2000 Multimedia Storage Viewer. It's all the bits of a laptop that are useful for photography -- hard drive, screen, card reader, battery -- without any of the stuff that might be useful for work. All it does is store and display photos, and that's all I want it to do.
If I had to buy another storage device, I'd get Canon's Media Storage M30 (or M80), because it uses the same battery as my camera. That said, Epson got to this market way ahead of Canon, so there's some kind of consumer justice involved -- at least I'm getting a virtuous glow from supporting the company that gambled on a new type of product.
Anyway, I'll be back to my laptop on 8 May, with a load of new photos -- see you then.
