The 10.2-inch Milano doesn't break any new netbook ground, but it's not without its charms either. It's cheap for one thing, although you wouldn't know that by looking at it, and its nearly full-size keyboard is comfortable to type on. Its matte display is also pleasing, appearing crisp and bright in all lighting conditions

Acer Aspire One D250 Android

The 10.1-inch Aspire One D250 Android is a netbook with a difference. It not only has Windows XP installed but also Android, which allows you to quickly boot the system for access to rudimentary apps, such as a Web browser. Its battery life is good, and it's an attractive machine too

It may be specifically aimed at business users, but the 10.1-inch Aspire One Pro 531 runs with the netbook pack when it comes to its specification. Its extra-long battery life is a definite plus point though, and its no-nonsense design will undoubtedly appeal to some

Samsung X120

The 11.6-inch X120 is our favourite ultra-portable laptop with an ultra-low-voltage processor so far. Its battery life isn't its strongest feature, but it's an ideal size, it has a well-judged specification, and its price tag is very tempting. Its low-key design is also very appealing

Dell Inspiron 11z

The mid-range Inspiron 11z ultra-portable laptop that we were given to review proved a capable machine. Its trackpad was poor, but its ultra-low-voltage processor delivered better performance than that of more expensive ULV laptops, and its 11.6-inch screen was great

ViewSonic VNB101

The 10.1-inch VNB101 doesn't do a great deal to stand out from the netbook crowd, but it doesn't do anything particularly wrong either. This machine is cute and pretty cheap too, so, for those who want to enjoy low-cost computing on the move, it's worth a gander

Samsung N140

Although the 10.1-inch N140 doesn't bring anything new to the netbook table, we can't knock it. Solidly built and attractively designed, its outstanding feature is its 10-hour battery life. Look no further if you want a reasonably priced netbook that can last all day away from the mains

Acer Ferrari One

There's no denying that the Ferrari One is the best netbook so far, offering a larger-than-usual, 11.6-inch screen, speedy performance, and a truly excellent keyboard. If you can live with a lid that may cause people to question the length of your reproductive appendage, you won't be disappointed

Advent Altro

The 13.3-inch Altro is an unashamed attempt to emulate the MacBook Air. Considering it's almost half the price, it doesn't do too bad a job. Offering 3GB of RAM, strong wireless capabilities and a good keyboard, it's worth a look for those after a relatively cheap thin-and-light laptop

Asus UX30

Asus' designers clearly had Apple's MacBook Air in mind when they created the 13.3-inch UX30 thin-and-light laptop. It bears a steep price tag and its battery life could be better, but it's a gorgeous-looking specimen and its ultra-low-voltage processor makes it a strong performer too

Sony Vaio Mini W series (VPCW11S1E)

The 10.1-inch Vaio Mini W series VPCW11S1E offers typical netbook performance for a relatively lofty price. But it also offers the excellent construction and design that's typical of Sony, as well as a 1,366x768-pixel, high-definition display. Overall, it's an attractive package

Acer TravelMate Timeline 8371

You'll want to spatter your brains all over the wall if you try playing games on the 13.3-inch TravelMate Timeline 8371, but it's a good laptop in almost every other regard. With an attractive, understated design, a capable ultra-low-voltage CPU and good battery life, the 8371 has won us over

Packard Bell dot m/a

Thanks to its large, high-resolution, 11.6-inch screen and excellent keyboard, the dot m/a netbook would make a good choice for those seeking a portable machine on which to type lengthy documents. It's also interesting purely because it packs an AMD CPU rather than the ubiquitous Intel Atom

Elonex Websurfer

The Websurfer won't make a satisfactory main computer, but it's a good choice if you're after a lightweight and inexpensive netbook for Web surfing and basic productivity tasks. At this price, the solid build quality and integrated VoIP phone are welcome bonuses

The 10.2-inch IdeaPad S10-2 netbook is a worthwhile update to the popular S10. Although Lenovo's jettisoned the ExpressCard slot, the S10-2 sports a pleasingly slim design, decent keyboard and performance, and very good battery life, making it a respectable netbook overall

The 13.3-inch Aspire Timeline 3810T boasts a slim, attractive design and a lightweight body, although we'd like to see an optical drive included. Compared to other slim 12- and 13-inch laptops, it also offers decent performance, but it's the extra-long battery life that really makes this machine stand out

Toshiba NB200

Toshiba's second entry into the netbook arena, the 10.1-inch NB200, is a valiant effort. It ticks all the netbook boxes, as well as offering a couple of very welcome extra features, like a shock-protected hard drive and a USB port that lets you charge mobile devices even when the NB200's turned off
