HP Mini 110
The 10.1-inch Mini 110 is the less expensive successor to one of our favourite netbooks, the Mini 1000. It's slightly thicker and heavier than its sibling, but it offers the same performance, more ports and connections, and a hard-to-find matte display. Overall, it's a thoroughly respectable machine

HP Pavilion dv3-2055ea
Attractive, lightweight and with good connectivity, the 13.3-inch Pavilion dv3-2055ea is a well-specified laptop for a reasonable price. The dv3-2055ea's 3D graphics performance isn't quite good enough for it to be considered a true multimedia powerhouse, but it's certainly a capable all-rounder

HP EliteBook 8730w
A gorgeous 17-inch DreamColour display is the standout feature of the workstation-class EliteBook 8730w, but it's not the only aspect of this laptop that helps justify the premium price tag. The 8730w also boasts superb performance, excellent build quality and a good keyboard

HP HDX X16
It's pricey but the 16-inch HDX X16 is a fantastic entertainment laptop, offering great performance and impressive audio capability. High-definition movies via the Blu-ray drive also look great on the 'Full HD', 1,920x1,080-pixel display. We've got to say, though, that the paint job is awful

HP HDX X18
It's expensive, the trackpad isn't great and its design is overly showy, but, apart from that, the 18-inch HDX X18 offers pretty much everything you could want in an entertainment laptop. Boasting a Blu-ray drive and 1080p display, it's a hugely powerful machine that offers a tonne of features

HP Pavilion dv2
Powered by AMD's Athlon Neo CPU, the Pavilion dv2 aims to straddle the divide between netbooks and more expensive ultra-portables. It looks great, can certainly outperform netbooks based on the Intel Atom or Via Nano processors, and puts in a decent gaming performance too

HP TouchSmart tx2-1020ea
Making full use of Vista's tablet PC features, the 12.1-inch TouchSmart tx2-1020ea offers decent performance and a good feature set in an attractive and robust package. It's on the heavy side and its multitouch capability may not be all you'd expect at this price, though

HP EliteBook 6930p
The relatively heavy EliteBook 6930p is an extremely well-built machine, with an excellent keyboard and decent performance. Most of the 19 models available lack integrated mobile broadband, and the entry-level screen resolution is disappointing, but it's a solid workhorse overall

HP Mini 2140
The Mini 2140, HP's latest stab at the netbook format, is solidly built and well designed. It's perfectly capable of handling typical netbook tasks and the fantastic keyboard is our favourite so far on a netbook. HP has also managed to keep the price down, making this the netbook to beat

HP Compaq Presario CQ70-116
The CQ70-116 is a sturdy, minimalist, desktop-replacement laptop with a 17-inch screen and a remarkably low price tag. A slow processor and poor graphics mean this isn't a laptop for gamers, but those seeking a general-purpose machine will find that the CQ70-116 delivers the goods

HP Mini 1000
Hewlett-Packard may be arriving late to the netbook scene with its Mini 1000, but the reasonably priced, lightweight netbook looks to be a serious contender. It has a thinner body than its predecessor, the 2133 Mini-Note, but retains the large, comfortable keyboard. Also, Intel's 1.6GHz Atom CPU offers good computing power

HP Pavilion tx2050ea
The Pavilion tx2050ea's swivelling touchscreen display means it can be used in tablet mode, making it a useful companion in cramped conditions. The screen's too reflective for our tastes and overall performance could be better, but the tx2050ea is still good value for money and you have to admire its flexibility

HP Pavilion dv9790ea
If you're after a desktop replacement laptop that'll handle strenuous activity, the dv9790ea is more than fit enough for the job. It's powered by a fast 2.5GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T9300, backed up by a generous 4GB of RAM, so it's no surprise that it breaks little sweat in terms of performance

HP Compaq 8710p
If you're after a large desktop replacement laptop, the HP Compaq 8710p could be just the ticket. With its excellent 17-inch display and a spacious keyboard, plus powerful discrete graphics mode and plenty of connectivity options, this laptop ticks all the boxes

HP Pavilion dv9590ea
The HP Pavilion dv9590ea is an excellent, all-rounder of a desktop replacement. It's prepared for the future by its ability to play high definition, with built-in HD DVD and HDMI. It performs well, has impressive 3D levels for gamers and has plenty of storage space

HP Pavilion TX1260ea
The major difference between the HP Pavilion TX1260ea and its older brother, the TX1020ea, is simply power. The TX1260ea has beefed up its CPU and has added more memory, but don't worry -- it's still the glossy, rotating tablet laptop you know and love. Take a turn for the better

HP 530
At a bargain price, you get more than you're paying for with the HP 530. The budget machine performs well and looks twice as expensive than it actually is. Added to this, it has a 15.4-inch widescreen display and built-in Wi-Fi and is perfect for anyone with more modest computing aspirations

HP Pavilion HDX9000
If you're going to nickname your product 'Dragon', you better back it up with both sleek styling and performance. With its design and multimedia capabilities, HP's Pavilion HDX9000 burns the competition and earns its alias. It is by far the hottest 20-inch desktop replacement we've seen

HP Pavilion dv6599ea
The HP Pavilion dv6599ea can certainly strut its stuff along with other desktop replacements as it's backed up by a strong processor and seriously impressive battery life. The Pavilion dv6599ea has style in spades. And when it comes to having style and performance, some laptops have it and some don't

HP Pavilion TX1020ea
HP is trying something new -- on one hand the TX1020ea is a business-like touchscreen Tablet PC, and on the other it's a home-oriented Media Center laptop. It might not be the most powerful PC we've ever seen, but its low price tag makes it worth a look
