Good: It's a good size. The screen is large and the laptop feels nice and solid. Plus it's pretty fast.
Bad: Had a problem with overheating once. The motherboard gave out. The battery's dead.
Comment: I got this laptop as a birthday present about five years ago now. At first, it worked like a dream. But then it started overheating. I couldn't rest it flat on a hard surface. I'd always have to balance it half on the table and keep the other half in the air. Otherwise it'd heat up and switch off. However, that probably was easily fixed when I had the fan cleared out. Turns out, there was a lot of dust in it while was the cause of the problem. I had it cleaned about three years ago now and funnily enough, I've not had the same problem.
And also, around about the same time my motherboard packed up. I had to take it to get it repaired ( I took it to a local place 'cause I couldn't afford to wait ages by sending it back to HP ). The local guy fixed it for me in four days. It was costly though.
Since then, I've not had major trouble. My battery's totally dead. Which means, I can't use it without having it constantly plugged into a socket. Which is not really an issue for me.
To be honest, I'm quite happy with this laptop. It's five years old and still going strong. It's a well built, solid affair and still worked even after I dropped it twice!
I'm actually quite surprised by all the negative reviews!
I would definitely consider buying another HP. However, this time I'd opt fora smaller screen because carrying my 15.4 around starts to kill my shoulder after a while!

Good: Keeps my Lap warm
Bad: Absolutely everything
Comment: I know this laptop is old but as far as i can tell this applies to all dv6 series laptops DONT BUY IT!!!!! There is a well documented issues with overheating graphics chip. This is a design fault and HP should have recalled the ebtire series. They didnt which left a lot of people with a useless doorstop. i can still use it occasionaly but to get it booted up I have to leave it wrapped baking in a jacket it with the black screen. After about half hour I do a hard re boot which sometimes works but mostly not. obviously windows doesnt like being shut down mid boot so now my windows is messed up too. oh did I mention the screen has been replaced by hp already as well as the firms botch, I mean 'fix', to try and keep temperature down. Which is basically a patch for the bios to keep the fan running constantly. Shocking. The annoying thing is, because I keep my kit clean this looks brand new, but its next to useless. AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE Ill never buy HP junk again. Spread the word.

Good: I like the size of the screen. Actually I liked most everything about my computer when it worked properly
Bad: Everything seems to be falling apart - first the dvd drive no longer opens when machine is booted up; the webcam has stopped working and I am getting messages saying the one of the usb ports if not functioning properly which means it will probably go on me too
Comment: I really liked this machine when I bought it but it gets very hot and now everything seems to be shutting down piece by piece. I am afraid I am going to have to replace it but it will not be with another product

Good: Not a lot.
Bad: Came with MSVista which is rubbish and CPU gets so hot that the fan has to go in hyper drive to try and keep it cool, which it doesn't!
Comment: brought this load of rubbish just over two years ago. First problem was the display hinge ceased up within a couple of months (which credit to HP they repaired quickly). After about 12 months the CPU started to get hot and then got so hot that the fan had to go into hyper drive in an attempt to keep it cool but unfortunately didn't so have now brought a cooling pad to try and keep it cool (which is helping but CPU is still warm!). Would I recommend HP laptops to friends or family and unfortunatley the answer is no! Sorry HP but maybe you going to sell the PC business is a good move!

Good: (Mine was dv6700 with finger print reader i have put that as a pro as this series is customisable)slick design, light wieght, cpu performance is descent, 2 headphone jacks(a great feature for people like me who share music and videos), the standards ports 3 usb, 1 vga etc. finger print reader, bluetooth, wifi 802.11, multi card reader, dual layer dvd-r, and touch capacitive media button
Bad: battery life isnt too dissapointing but its not amazing either. go gaming on this machine with full brightness and high graphic detail and u'l be out running for power supply in less than 2 hours. than fan gets a bit hot if you use it for too long without a break. u need to keep it constantly ventilated.
Comment: its a great bit of kit overall, for home and office use. this being a part of entertainment series laptops from hp has great media capabilities. 15.4 widescreen is a joy to watch videos with descent altec lansing speakers or 2 headphone jacks. mine was a 2.2ghz 3gb ram intel duo core 2, windows vista, so it was better experience as compared to windows xp. gaming is as good as it gets as mine had nvidia geforce 8400s, which handled graphics good. integrated 1.3 mp webcam is quite good with 2 bulit in microphone for perfect video chats. this has been one of my favourite laptops from what i have owned. good value for money and i recommend this to anyone who wants it for day to day or office work, and wants to add fun to their use!!

Good: Nothing
Bad: Everything!
Comment: I bought this laptop in Jan 2010 and after 3 months problems started: network card, problems with start up, overheating, fans are making noise like helicopters, battery doesn't charge properly. I got MOBO replaced twice... And I bet I will get it replaced soon since overheating problem is back! What to do to get money back?! I bought this laptop mainly because I believed it is a solid, trusted brand. What a disappointment. My husband and 2 of my friends experience similar problems.
I strongly recommend: do N O T buy this piece of crap. You will surely regret it!

Good: The looks
Bad: Everything else..
Comment: This notebook is awful! I'm using it now and it's overheating and the fans sound like a plane taking off. It has broken on me three times two of which being the graphics card melting and once being when it had a catastrophic processor failure. Definitely wouldn't recommend it for anyone considering the extortionate price as you get awful value for money.

Good: There is no good in this product
Bad: Poorly engineered
Comment: Power failures, abysmal performance, poorly engineered. This notebook has a major motherboard problem. HP don't care and have cared to replace the hardware in product since 2006. A cousin of mine regretted getting as a gift. It came with 1year warranty. The notebook warranty run out in the last week of the warranty. This is the same time, the graphical controller unit got busted. HP didn't repair it for her and its not sitting in the house as an electronic junk.
Honestly, i would recommend Sony notebook. I have one and it i love the "VAIO" to bit. It fast and very reliable. Screw HP

Good: Great looks
Bad: Inherent motherboard faults and woeful battery life.
Comment: I bought the laptop 3 years ago and it worked like a dream acting like a mini techies mid life crisis. But the past 13 months have been beset with issues from it failing to power up (motherboard fault), the screen going blank (motherboard fault),battery not charging (motherboard fault) and wireless failure (motherboard fault). Yeah you guessed it I've got the mother of all faults. But I limp on till I can get enough money to buy a new laptop (which will NOT be an HP on principle) running continually on AC power (sans battery) and a wireless USB adaptor to connect to the web.
