Good: SLi physx card screen lights build is very strong play every game aviable to windows

Bad: nothing i can think of other than battery life being an the most 1 1/2 hours

Comment: -the battery is really a UPS
-on battery the graphics cards are only as go as a 8600m gs
-cpu support
core 2 duo t7xxx t8xxx t9300 t9500--- i recormend the t8xxx or t9300 and t9500 all 45nm and just work better with the the system
core 2 extreme x7800 x7900 x9000 --- i recormend the x9000 it 45nm and runs the coolest (but its still hot)
-core 2 extreme are overclockable
-graphics cards
8700m gt --- dont go for it unless you dont want to play games
8700m gt x2 SLi --- well it better but only by 0-40%
8800m gtx x2 SLi --- 3x faster the the 8700m gt and i will work with games but it runs hotter and has a higher rate of failer
9800m gt x2 SLi --- run slighly cool and slighly faster than the 8800m gtx and has a much low rate of failer
9800m gtx x2 SLi the best cards for the laptop but runs hotter than the 9800m gt and is slighly fast
-RAM up to 8GB DDR2 667MHz --- dont get non maching stick e.g 1+2gb or 4+1gb ect get single stick or dual maching for best perfomace
overall i think this i one hell of a laptop if your think of buying one do it now you wont regret it

I own it

Good: Gaming and Business ability originally

Bad: Flawed GPU 8800m SLI keeps failing

Comment: Originally bought the latop to complete business and gaming functions, was great for a short time until failures started to happen. The main flaw in the laptop is the 8800m GPU system it gets to hot and burns out on a regular basis. The internet forums and dells own community site has numerous examples, In my opinion do not buy this laptop new or secondhand unless you want an expensive doorstop. Dell has not got the resplacement parts for these and will try to make you wait long periods of time to repair with what is meant to be a Premium Next Businees Day warranty service.

Good: Great at payment

Bad: Poor at delivery and service

Comment: Dell is great at letting you pay, but very poor at service and delivery. Never delivered my product and 3 months later still waiting for money back.

Never Again!

Good: Graphics processor

Bad: Its a Dell and a Dell is always a Dell. It lucks the substance of a £1700 laptop. At £1000 its great or around a university campus

Good: The SLI 8800 GT Graphics cards

Bad: Dell Tech Support

Comment: I recently purchased a fully loaded Dell M1730 laptop SLI 8800GT graphics cards, 4 gigs of DDR (only 3GB can be used by vista 32bit and Dell do not offer 64 bit edition!)and so on. The laptop for the first few days was perfect, super fast performance and its all bundled into a great looking package however, there were numerous software conflicts etc and what Dell do no tell you is that the great looking dell light FX system and windows vista SP1 have a known conflict and you will get a loud crackling noise through your soundcard whilst changing the lights and at the start of MP3 tracks and other situations ("Its a known conflict" according to Dell tech support, although during the 10+ phone calls I made to them no one had ever heard of this problem!)

Tech support with Dell is pretty awful and thats being very fair, my company currently has 4 Dell workstations and a Dell server and to be fair these machines have never had any issues but after my experience with Dell's tech support and being told there is nothing they can do about the light fx issue and even if I were to have an exchange I would have the same problem.
I felt let down by Dell considering the machine had set me back over £2000 this didn't seem to matter to Dell and there were other issues but I didnt have the patience to go through the long winded tech support phone calls. Dell's mediadirect kept crashing without reason and it failed to play blu ray discs out of the box (I had to download powerdvd 8 to get those working!) there were other problems but the list was pretty long. To date and after a vast amount of infuriating phone calls to tech support I have been offered a full refund but I will be taking my business elsewhere in future, new buyers beware of Dell's lack of customer service
