Good: Dedicated Graphics, 15.4" Screen, Webcam, BMW Design

Bad: Redundant Bluetooth and Dummy Button. Acer Utilities

Comment: Apart from the useless bluetooth button I quite like this laptop, its fast, not noisy, and has lots of connectivity. However at the same time it also is hot, and has useless buttons. In response to the Rory Reid's, Comment of "This wouldn't be so much of a problem were there a button to temporarily disable the mouse -- but there isn't. " There is a button which turns off the mouse, simply press FN + F7 :). It would be nice to have a use for the two buttons though. However apart from that its a fast, great laptop to use.

Good: Everything

Bad: Only a 15 inch screen

Comment: I was looking for a laptop replacement for my ancient PC and had been bewildered by the plethora available. I read and re-read all the reviews and specs on all the possibles for my money, then I stumbled across this. My search was over.

From the more than adequate processor and memory, through to an ample hard drive via a graphics card that beat anything else I had looked at did it for me. I took some of my programmes down to the shop, asked for them to be installed to try and walked out with one. (That I got a new printer and case chucked in on top was a bonus.)

In addition, I think the colour is great. Who wants to follow the herd with a boring black and silver machine anyway? If technology doesn't stand still, why should design? I agree it may not appeal to everyone but it really is mere cosmetics. Would anyone reject a BMW for the price of a Skoda simply because they didn't like the colour?

Value for money? Absolutely!

Good: The design is really nice with a bmw hood like exterior and a "ipod" white colour on the inside. The performance is great including hybrid disk drive, flash chip and powerful graphics card.

Bad: It gets hot when playing games.

Comment: cnet's review of this laptop must be the worst i have ever read!
he bangs on about the colour of the inside which isnt that bad and a couple of buttons.....wow! that was the whole of the review, where was the bit about the 2ghz c2d the 2gb ram or the 8600m gt or the fact that this is a fantastic multimedia laptop all for a bargain price ......nope!

Good: Everything

Bad: Touchpad

Comment: This is a very good looking laptop! I don't know why the fool who wrote this review said it was ugly!!! Man, he must be really dumb. I have this laptop and where ever I bring it, people compliment the looks of it! Tell the guy to go get another job!

Good: Performance finally worthy hard earned cash

Bad: Screen could be bigger / higher resolution

Comment: I have spent much time reading reviews on this product and found the cnet video the most pointless and uneventful. Perhaps it was the crass view being spouted by a half wit which insisted on rambling on about all the things but the performance or anything consumers may look for in a laptop.

The important parts of this product set it apart from the rest in its price range, a good powerful processor with enough l2 cache and fsb to handle demanding programs, good ram size (2048) although lower speed than would be expected to accompany the processor at 667 rather the 800 but again, more for your money then alternatives. Very impressive graphics card with turbo cache technology and a large hdd. Impressive sound technology and port features as well, not to mention that it looks stylish, creative and bold, perhaps not all things to all people but definitley better then the review suggests. Which begs the question biased reviews or own conclusions? Smarter thinking or reviewing for the sake of reviewing? Why didnt someone mention that it need to fill a purpose and how effectively it meets consumers needs!

This is firmly for entertainment and enjoyment rather then for spread sheets and data processing. "Questional styling" perhaps you should look at a Dell, Lenovo or Fujitsu long hard before you can begin to think of any worthwhile questions on styling Mr Reid.

Good: Classy design. Attrative appearance. Quiet. Excellent Dolby speaker. Excellect Cost/Benefit

Bad: none so far

Comment: This unit has the built-in subwoofer, Dolby, "Virtual Surround Sound". Tried to play the DVD "Star War" and music CDs. It sounds great and way better than other Laptops. No dead pixels. No strange noises!! Nice HD DVD players and HDMI. Now I can watch HD DVDs and MLB internet online games on my HD 50" TV through the HDMI connector. Very classy interior and exterior design.

I do not see any problem with the USB port behind the optical driver. When I use that port for my wireless mouse, it does not create any trouble to eject the optical driver. plus, there are three more USB ports on the other side. I do not understand why CNET makes so big an issue about this.

CNET questions the interior cloudy gray color. The colour "COMPLETLY" varies depending on the lighting conditions. With yellowish lighting, the notebook looks beige. With bright sunlight, you would be tricked into thinking its grey. When strong white light is reflected off it, the notebook surface looks white. Either way, the colour was chosen because it is comfortable on the eyes over long periods of time.

--------------------------------------------
The most un-professional review so far I have seen on the CNET. I can not believe a professional consumer-electronics critic website like CNET would post such a crappy review that make me almost believe that CNET probably took some bribery from other brands. This post is filled with biased comments about this model. If you don't believe me, why don't you check other critic websites like http://www.notebookcheck.net/Acer-Aspire-5920.3689.0.html. You will find out that most of them give the model deserved credits.

I am neither a Acer fan nor an employee taking paycheck from Acer. I did lots of research and tested many other laptops in shops and finally landed on this model. I and my wife enjoy this laptop very much. I used to feel reviews posted by CNET were helpful. Now I lose my confidence totally.

Good: Very cheap, quiet, blue lightning, performance, placement of USB ports, keyboard, Webcam

Bad: Easily touchable functional buttons, Bluetooth but no Bluetooth, gets hot, no recovery CD

Comment: First: You do not get another laptop here in Germany which is in the same price category and get about the same performance.

What I absolutely do no like is the lack of a recovery CD or DVD. You have to create one yourself and how do you know whether it will work? It also gets hot during games, but what are cooling pads for.

A huge no-no is the Bluetooth button. What is its function if your Acer does not have Bluetooth. And there is no infrared - only for a remote.

The processor and the nVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT do a great job. It might not start up or shut down very fast, but as soon as Vista has loaded it speeds up very well.

The lighting is awesome. Just use your notebook in the dark and others are going to envy you. It justs looks beautiful. The grey keyboard isn't as ugly as cnet says. White would've definitely been nicer, but it still looks nice.

The placement of the USB ports are also very useful - no ports in the back, therefore, they are easy to reach. The one next to the DVD drive is also no bummer. Who would want to stick in anything else than a mouse, which fits perfectly, anyway?

They keyboard is great, too. You can type really fast - it is big enough, and additional keys are also easy to reach.

Despite the negatives, the Acer Aspire is one of the best laptops you can get at this time, especially for this price. If you don't mind the negatives, don't wait to buy it.
