Good: Performance, keyboard, screen.

Bad: DVD Recorder, speakers, Wi-fi and specially HEAT!!

Comment: I'm a graphic designer and this was my first laptop. It was so fast and that's useful because i can show and change in real time my works in front of the customer. The screen is also a good point, it's easy to show what's in the computer to a bunch of people.

In the other hand the first thing that pissed me was his wi-fi that stoped working once in a while (I'm not sure is it was just me though...). Also, the DVD-Recorder is so bad, it has trouble reading a lot of DVD's and CD's and i had some problems writting too. That's why i purchased an external DVD Recorder and it was so much better.

The worst thing of all was the heat, i purchased this laptop 4 years ago i even installed extra fans under the laptop and even with this the laptop destroyed himself with his heat. Time to buy another one...

Good: It is actually quite good when it comes to all the new games, it runs them fast, and without any big issues that you will find with other computers.

Bad: It is very hot where you usually have your left hand, when you play games like "WoW" then you need the "W,A;S;D" to move, and if you try to have your hand on to the computer, then you will burn yourself.

Comment: This Laptop, is good overall, but... The heat is something every First-Person-Shooter gamer will hate!
It runs fast though, when you think about what grapichs it can handle before it going to slow down drastically. If you even try to have games like "Starcraft 2" on the highest then this computer laggs BAD! Even in offline mode when playing.
But the Laptop can have many games and other program softwares on it (including movies that has been downloaded and etc.) without any problems on the graphical settnings on games, and the speed it runs on.

And once again "but".... The gray color on the inside is EVIL! I hate it above anything else, but if you have a computer like this that runs smoothly, then the evil-paintjob-from-Lucifer wouldn't matter that much :)

Comment: Also I find the phrase of the verdict on the review: The Aspire 5920 is a candidate for the ugliest laptop of the year. It's smeared in enough grey to put British skies to shame, and has has some absolutely awful design touches.

Good: Solid machine, never let me down

Bad: casing has crumbled at the back & optical drive broken within 12 months

Comment: I do like this laptop, it is reliable and has never let me down. It has even had water spilt over the keyboard, it shut down, but after a few hours of drying with a hairdryer on warm it worked fine and has never caused me a problem. It the power to cope with lots of applications.

What needs improving is that it gets very hot, resulting in the plastic on the back vent crumbling away. Also the optical drive broke. Its also heavy.

Good: performance, style, overall quality.

Bad: bulk, weight, a horrible touch pad.

Comment: back a couple of years ago i would not have touched an acer laptop, because they wasnt known for top quality computer building, such as names like HP and PACKARD BELL.

now tho...boy they make some really good equipment, so i went ahead and sold my HP dv6000 laptop and purchased this acer 5920g.

the pricing of which was superb, i payed £600 for this laptop about a year ago now and my spec was very near the best you could get at the time, i have a dual core santa rosa 2.0ghz processor, along with 4gb (yes 4) of ram, 250gb hard drive, dedicated 256mb ATI HD 3470, and a blu ray player along with a HD connection on the left.

frankly very high spec considering price at the time, it plays moderately high spec games, sim 2...no problem all high graphics settings, football manager 2008...easy. only high spec games like oblivion would give me problems, although even these are playable on lower graphics settings.

so, thats performance out the way from the off, overall, a great performer.

ok onto design, this laptop has a sleek exterior that is shiny, smooth and the overall shape of the laptop is lovely, the interior is white and contrasts with the exterior suprisingly well, the interior is fairly pleasantly lit up with even blue lighting on the right of the keyboard and next to and around the power button. the usb slots on the left are a little cramped but its nothing troublesome, and theres a single usb on the right which is perfect for your everyday mouse or better still a nice wireless laser mouse which i use... this brings me on to the worst thing about the laptop.

i use a wireless laser mouse because the touchpad is terrible, im not sure if it can be adjusted yet because i always use my mouse as standard, but the touchpad is really really slow and always switched on, you can go into the touchpad settings on the computer and switch it off and to be honest its the first thing you should do on purchase of the laptop, then go and buy a nice portable laptop mouse, i spent £60 on a logitech laser mouse which is so fantastic to use you wouldnt believe it, although £60 is overkill it is worth spending at least £20 for the upgrade of a nice smooth laser mouse, it really does make navigating around the laptop a joy and a nice mouse is very very underrated, most people put up with a standard mouse or even optical, but when you go to a quality laser mouse you wont go back and it will be crammed into your laptop bag with the laptop. the next worst thing about the laptop is the bulk of it, its really a bit fat and although its nothing terrible there is certainly lighter and thinner examples out there for those of you that would like something you can carry to work everyday, the laptop is built very well, the screen hinges are very strong and stiff and this is show with the need to hold the bottom down as you lift the screen, always a nice feeling. the only bit built a little oddly is the disc tray, although ive had no troblems there is a feeling you may break it if pushed down on too hard, seems a little tagged on and considering how strong the overall laptop feels the tray could have been better. the laptop gets a little hot on the left and it can be a little uncomfortable when your wrist is resting on the left hand side while typing, but this does not mean i think its not cooled well, the heat sink is large and the fan works when it needs to, which is nice because it keeps noise down. i do think more could have been down to keep it cooler tho but i forgive this because i know the laptop has plenty of power under the hood and i expect it to get warm at some point.

so thats the design out of the way, it looks super sleek and smooth but is let down by being a bit overweight and fat, but as any decent human would say about a human...its whats on the inside that counts and you can get over it being a bit chubby.

now ill talk a little bit about function and what this laptop is like to use physically. onto the keyboard. now the

Good: Fresh design, excellent performance at a fair price - £280.

Bad: Screen reflection.

Comment: Excellent performance - fast and quiet with lots of good Acer enhancements. WiFi is very sensitive and provides excellent connection.

Screen text, images and DVD quality is crystal clear.

Good: Everything else especially the fact that laptop was designed by BMW Designworks

Bad: Design

Comment: First time I saw this laptop I thought it was one of the most ugliest things on the market. However don't be put off by the design itself. The performance of this laptop is immense and surprisingly powerful. I manage to upload important documents on the laptop whilst also uploading my music and pictures from my previous computer, all at the same time without any one of these tasks being compromised.

I would disagree with the CNET review that said that the touch-pad mouse wasn't touch sensitive enough. I compared the sentivity of the touchpad to the touchpad of Dell Inspiron 1525, and after comparison I discovered that the aspire's touchpad was more responsive to touch than the Dell Laptop.

So overall Acer Aspire 5920 is one heck of a laptop that has the capability to "punch any laptop critic" who dares criticise it, especially the CNET reviewer. It is great for students and also for business users. It's definitely up there amongst the toshibas and sony vaios in my opinion.

Good: The look.

Bad: Nothing.

Comment: This is my first laptop, and what i needed one for was to go on the internet, store music and pictures, and just to play with. I wanted something that looked good because it was my first laptop, and i couldn't ask for anything more. The outside is very stylish and looks great. The inside is even better, I think it looks great and i haven't found one person who doesn't think so. The review from CNET is awful and very cruel. Yes the pictures were a bit mis-leading, but it still looks great. The blue lights also add to the style and I think acer and BMW have done a great job. The buttons on the sides are very helpful, especially the touch media buttons, i can easily skip songs when surfing the web. The screen size is great! Its definately impressive and a great resolution. Just everything about it is FABULOUS. Do not be put off by the review on this site, its great value for the money. Cannot think of anything bad. At all. Get it! Its mint!
