What we think: A little large for a 10-inch netbook, but it's a great example nonetheless

Hi I'm Rory Reid here with the latest netbook from Samsung. You might already have seen the NC10, the NC20, the N110, and the N310, but forget all those for a moment, because what we have here is the N120. If you're a little confused by the names, don't worry -- I am too.
What we do know is that the N110 is a 10-inch netbook with a slightly larger chassis than the NC10 -- the original Samsung netbook. As a result, Samsung's been able to accommodate what is pretty much a full-size laptop keyboard, so it's a little more comfortable to use than most machines of this type. There isn't enough travel in the keys for my liking -- they’re a bit too shallow -- but like most Samsung laptops, it has silver nano technology, a special type of antibacterial coating that should reduce the likelihood of catching some kind of animal-based flu from whoever you're sharing it with.
The N110 might look as if it has a small screen, but that's a bit of an optical illusion owing to the larger chassis. This is a 10.2-inch display with a native resolution of 1024x600 pixels, so it's pretty standard. However, Samsung has added a glossy finish, which naturally, makes it almost impossible to use outdoors because of the reflection.
The other big selling point of the N110 is the high battery capacity. It has a 5700mAh battery pack, which under the right conditions, will get you up to 10 hours of use, although realistically, you'll achieve a fair bit less -- but again it depends on what sorts of applications you're running.
If we take a look around this thing, we can see it's all pretty standard. There are two USB ports on the left, plus an Ethernet port. You get an SD card slot at the front,, plus another USB on the right, VGA video output, mic and headphone ports, and a lock for securing it to a table. Notice above all these ports, you get a little icon, which makes them that much easier to locate.
Inside, you get an Atom N270 CPU, 1GB of RAM, 160GB of storage -- all pretty standard stuff. On the whole, it's a great example of a 10-inch netbook. It doesn't do an awful lot to stand out from the crowd, but if you've been holding back trying to find a netbook with a great keyboard and very good battery life, then this one definitely deserves your consideration.
I'm Rory Reid and this is the Samsung N120.
Join Rory Reid of CNET UK in this video review of the Samsung N120 netbook. Despite being a very cheap laptop, it has an amazingly long battery life of up to 10 hours alongside a 10-inch display and a subwoofer. The screen is a glossy model and the keyboard is nearly full-size. Watch our video to find out more.
