Google's announcement that it's to release its own PC operating system next year may seem like it heralds the end of Microsoft as we know it, but Google's real challenge isn't to design software that's fast, secure, easy to use, exciting and generally brilliant. Blame Microsoft for the Windows 7 upgrade shambles, not the EU

Last week was not Microsoft's finest hour. For years, it's been working on the successor to Windows Vista, and there's a lot at stake.

Rightly or wrongly, hordes of consumers haven't flocked out to buy Vista. The problems Microsoft had when it launched created bad perceptions in the minds of consumers that have never gone away. Click here for more

Is Microsoft really expecting us to pay for Windows 7?

I was looking at screenshots of the new Vista service pack announced at Microsoft's Professional Developers' Conference yesterday, and it seemed like a good patch.

Apparently, it turns Vista into a speed demon, makes transferring files via Bluetooth easier, reduces the size of the Windows icon on the start menu, adds some system monitoring and generally makes the software less irritating. Sounds good so far. Click here for more

I can't begin to explain how much of a let-down the Apple launch was last night, and Steve Jobs has only got himself to blame. Please don't combine my phone with my Oyster card

I just don't get it. Why the excitement about combining an Oyster card with a mobile phone? According to The Guardian, O2, Barclaycard and Nokia have successfully completed a trial that saw 500 guinea pigs use the 6131 as a cashless wallet, as well as a fairly boring phone. According to the article, it was a roaring success and it may roll out commercially before the Olympics arrive in London. Click here for more

It was chucking it down on Sunday, so I looked for a TV programme to buy on the iTunes store and came across this picture.
