Google Chrome OS: The biggest problem is that people want Windows
Google's announcement that it's to release its own PC operating system next year may seem like it heralds the end of Microsoft as we know it, but Google's real challenge isn't to design software that's fast, secure, easy to use, exciting and generally brilliant. That's the easy bit. The hard part will be convincing people they actually need it. Click here for more

Blame Microsoft for the Windows 7 upgrade shambles, not the EU
Last week was not Microsoft's finest hour. For years, it's been working on the successor to Windows Vista, and there's a lot at stake.
Rightly or wrongly, hordes of consumers haven't flocked out to buy Vista. The problems Microsoft had when it launched created bad perceptions in the minds of consumers that have never gone away. Click here for more

Is Microsoft really expecting us to pay for Windows 7?
I was looking at screenshots of the new Vista service pack announced at Microsoft's Professional Developers' Conference yesterday, and it seemed like a good patch.

New iPodzzz: Man, that was dull
I can't begin to explain how much of a let-down the Apple launch was last night, and Steve Jobs has only got himself to blame. He has single-handedly created an expectation that every time he holds a press conference, he's going to unveil the most amazingly amazing thing Captain Amazing has ever produced from his amazing shed. Please don't combine my phone with my Oyster card
I just don't get it. Why the excitement about combining an Oyster card with a mobile phone? According to The Guardian, O2, Barclaycard and Nokia have successfully completed a trial that saw 500 guinea pigs use the 6131 as a cashless wallet, as well as a fairly boring phone. According to the article, it was a roaring success and it may roll out commercially before the Olympics arrive in London. Click here for more

'It looks like Hannibal has had a stroke'
It was chucking it down on Sunday, so I looked for a TV programme to buy on the iTunes store and came across this picture. It took me a few moments to realise that someone, be it Apple, Universal or a practical joker, has decided to flex their Photoshop muscles and airbrush out Hannibal's cigar. Click here for more
