Comment: not so good.
Good: price, performance, build in controlls
Bad: Lack of backpart camera
Comment: Just awesome.
Good: Button Mapping, Light, Small
Bad: Dodgy software, lack of compatibility on google play, low battery life
Comment: I got this because I love gaming emulators. Was I severely disappointed! The game mapping is often slow. Sometimes losing previous map saves, not mapping exactly where you chose.
Many of the games I've played on other tablets weren't accessible through google play.
Really low battery life!!.
Software freezes. (A very common issue). And dispite this, they still try causing trouble with warranty, to get it fixed. BEWARE, their customer service is TERRIBLE.
Good: value for money, build in controlls
Bad: battery, 8gb
Comment: Now that half a month has passed for the day i bought it i still believe that this tablet, is the best you can find in that amount of money.
Of course a tablet like ipad or ipad mini is way better (i am talking for ios vs android), but the archos gamepad is what i call, value for money.
If you can afford a ipad, you should buy one, but if you want a low cost tablet with great power under the hood you should pick this one.
Also, what else i found about this tablet is that you can put, any battery you like.
As you open one, you will see that there is plenty of room to fit an even larger sized battery.
If you are good in this staff you can double the battery capacity of this tablet, and here is a tutorial.
google "Hailrazer's - Archos GamePad Larger Battery Mod"
One bad thing about this, is that it has an internal memory of 8 gb (6 useable)
So there was a huge problem, high end games (nfs most wanted, batman, real racing)require a lot of space, about 1-2 gb each. But if you root it like i did you can transfer those big files into your external sd.
also the software about the maping is keep updating, that is good. more and more games are made for the gamepad controls. i thought that there was going to be no further support, but this is a good sign.
Bad: only 8 gb, some games doesnt' like the anologs, bad viewing angles
Comment: i have this tablet 4 days now.
when it arrived to me i instantly rooted it. DO NOT TRY "Chainfire3D" it will destroy you gamepad, so you will have to root it again.
the price is just great for what it gives and thats why i give 5 start.
about the screen, the touch is great, but some games require to turn the device, one angle that i can't describe in english is terrible, all the other 3 are good. also the resolution is average.
internal memory only 8 gb, but thank god that i can plug a sd card on it. (they are so cheap now, 1 euro per gb)
the performance is great, i can play any high end game, exept the tegra one, and thats why i tried chainfire 3d.. it worked on my archos 43 but it failed on the gamepad..
the build in controller makes gaming so freaking easy than using the touch controlls.
although some game doesn't like the analog sticks, i checked the analogs with a test tool, and the work fine, so it isn't a hardware problem, but software.
also there is a lack of camera in the back, but who takes pics with 7 inc tablets?
it has a front webcam for apps like skype.
also think twice before rooting the archos gamepad.
from the moment i rooted mine it take 60 sec instead of 7 to boot, also i have charging problems, like blinking the right bottom staff and making me hard to use the tablet.
for now use the official rom, and wait about 3 moths to root it, it is too early.
i do not regret my 150 payment, it is not a super machine, but for the price the give it. it is superb.
Good: it plays games realy well
Comment: firstly you dont own one so your review is not quite right
i own one and love it it plays games and you can surf the net and i mean fast dont understand why someone who has used one could not love it
if your thinking of getting one go read the arnova forum and that will make you want one even more.
Bad: Freezes most of the time. Bad viewing angles.
Comment: This is one of the worst android gaming device. I bought one back in December but I sent it back as I was unable to use it for more than an hour without the charger. The apps freeze most of the time. They replaced my device but only the battery life improved. Archos got this one wrong and I think they should pull the plugs on this one before it takes them down. PLEASE DO NOT BUY. Too bad I did not read the refund policy on their website. In other terms they'll fix or replace only.
Good: Price, Archos support
Bad: Screen, battery life
Comment: Have you tried to update latest firmware of the device? Many people complain and complain about the gamepad, but after updating, the machine runs like a dream. With small investment, this machine let me play android game with high graphics setting and smooth framerate as a high-end smartphone. Beside playing games, the gamepad can connect to HDTV and other USB devices with ease. My Galaxy Tab 2 even has a hardtime with these functions.
With such functions and that small price, this device is gold for students like me. And look at how quickly and effectively archos fixes issues with firmware updates? This device will only be better and better. My only complain is that i cannot honk, start side missions and drive-by with this gamepad in Vice city :-|
Good: Archos support/trademark
Bad: tha absolute lack of support of a dedicated gaming team for design and testing the final product.
Comment: I agree with major part of the review, but i have few obs.
- Archos released a firmware update that improve a better anser of the button devices
- if you use the device withtout a microSD inserted, the system is very stable. (sdcard generate many problems, such "not responding" messages)
i think he basic idea is so good, but the lack of any support of a dedicated team involved in gaming development, ressults on a device that will not be a good choice for any gamer, because have many "basics" problems that any company with some "pedigree" (i liked this definition you give) will avoid, suc a very bad D-PAD, or the infamous button overlaping (you don´t mention this, but there are several problems related. i posted on my review about this device too)
anyway, if you're interested on read my review (in spanish, but you must translate on the same page) here is the link:
Comment: Weak effort. Far from appealing. Some mug will buy it though :-\
