Ian Morris
Ian Morris loves televisions so much he's been banned from wedding chapels in Las Vegas for trying to marry them. When he's not romancing technology, he can be found watching American TV. Ian likes roast potatoes, but he doesn't like digital rights management.

MPs want a watershed for YouTube
I can hardly believe how idiotic our government can be at times. The latest report designed to prove how little politicians understand technology is the proposal from the Commons Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee that video-hosting Web sites restrict content based on the time of day, just like TV companies do with broadcast content. LOLcats: Very effective PR for felines
I never used to like cats: I'm a dog lover. We had a lovely golden retriever when I was growing up and nothing will stop me from thinking dogs are the best pets in the world. I've always treated cats with suspicion, probably because of their murderous proclivities. It's reported that they kill as many as 300 million birds and other small mammals each year in the UK -- a prolific level of murder for animals that are fed nice pellets twice a day. Smooth moves towards fibre broadband
There are patches where fibre is used, including new-build towns like Ebbsfleet. There are some sewer-based, third-party fibre roll-outs happening in Dundee and Bournemouth, but most of us are stuck with ageing copper cables in our homes Click here for more

Is downloading music worse than bullying innocent people?
I've recently seen two things on the BBC Web site about music piracy. The first was a blog piece written by a chap called Darren Waters who claims he stopped downloading because it became clear to him that he was "breaking the law". He was talking about the recent letters Virgin has sent out at the behest of the BPI to people suspected of downloading music. Click here for more

Zomg, 3G iPhone!!!11
I'm so fracking excited right now. Out of the blue I got an email this morning from someone I met once at a tech event who once worked alongside one of the guys in charge of chip design for a company that works closely with Apple. He's very reliable, and has tipped me off on past events with great accuracy. Click here for more

This Rock Band thing has gone too far
I have no objection at all to music games -- well, apart from Singstar, which I loathe. But I have to say, with the introduction of Guitar Hero and now Rock Band, I think this 'pretend musician' thing is getting out of hand. Click here for more

They call it unlimited, but it really isn't
Anyone who's read one of my blog posts or listened to Crave Podcast 85 will know that I find Vodafone's data plan to be something of a complete joke. Since signing a new 18-month contract to get an N95 8GB last year, I've been paying £7.50 a month for 120MB of data, which I think is the most preposterous charge for anything in the history of all chargeable things. On-screen Logos: DIE, DIE, DIE!
Never let it be said that I was the voice of reason or anything, but when TV channels have on-screen logos, I really feel the need to vent some serious rage in their general direction. This is common practice on satellite, cable and Freeview channels and it's another one of those diseases we've caught from the Americans. Click here for more

Onkyo TX-SR706: THX, 1080p upscaling and all sorts
Crave If you're all about the perfect home cinema experience, the THX certified Onkyo TX-SR706 is likely to interest you -- and annoy your neighbours
Sony Bravia KDL-40X3500
Review We're always pleased to see a TV that breaks the monotony of shiny black boxes and predictable looks, so when we unboxed the Sony Bravia KDL-40X3500 there was an audible sigh of relief. This is no ordinary 40-inch 1080p LCD, at least not from an aesthetic perspective
Onkyo TX-SR576
Review The Onkyo TX-SR576 aims to provide epic movie sound at a reasonable price: it's a 7.1-channel surround-sound decoder and amplifier, with support for Dolby Digital and DTS decoding. It offers loads of features for people who want involving surround sound in their lives
Profigold PROV1015: Long-distance 1080p with 15m HDMI cable
Crave Not everyone has their Blu-ray player next to the TV -- if you're one of those long-distance sorts you'll be thrilled to hear about a 15m HDMI cable
Four of the best plasma televisions
Round-up Some of our favourite televisions are plasmas right now. This is a pretty new development because it feels as though it's taken a while for the technology to catch up with LCD, especially in terms of value. Now though, there are enough reasons to favour a plasma if you're about to splash some cash on a new telly.
LG DP391B
Review LG's demurely named DP391B deserves a more conspicuous moniker -- it's easily one of the best portable DVD players we've ever seen. With a glorious screen, handy kickstand and tonnes of features, including DivX playback and photo display, it's just the thing for dull journeys
Photos: Popcorn Hour B-110 DIY media motherboard
Photo If you're looking for a home cinema PC that can decode virtually every format, is quiet as a mouse and has a pretty decent price, we might have the very thing
Photos: Popcorn Hour A-110 does media streaming even better
Photo It's no secret that we had an unhealthy love affair with the Popcorn Hour A-100 media streamer, so when the A-110 landed, we were very excited indeed
