Good: Easy setup, stylish, good picture quality

Bad: shortfall on sound quality

Comment: There's something wrong with the sound output on certain DVD's. For example; just played James Bond 'Live & Let Die' (remastered) and part of the soundtrack is lost! Most noticable in the opening sequence where you cannot hear Paul McCartney's voice, just the music & the backing vocals.

Good: The SUB it has so much bass my mum banned it from the house

Bad: No bass or treble control

Comment: Can a just say i am 28 years old and look for bass and sound, This machine has it all, the sound quality is great but would be better if they would give the user control of the sound and not preset. but this machine is some real big boys toys... i had a guy say he heard the bass 6 doors away in his front room. the SUB is rerly used in films, but when it rattles its cage it goes for it. i have sold my HI-FI and just use this as my DVDplayer and stereo, it has an FM and MW tuner that makes it hint all the more that its here to replace your stereo, and it does a very good job of doing it... i can honestly say that the surround i have heard it, and sounds just like DTS. not dolby digital, but dolby logic, but to get that sound from 2 speakers is just a truly intence way to watch a film. the front USB and MP3 input works perfect, and the audio in located at the rear works great when watching sky, over all it is a very sexy machine and has the power to raise eyebrows. i would recomend getting this machine over a 5.1 system. overall WOW! well done philips... just wish people who make them preset EQ, would let us decide and give us Bass and Treble control ourself... 10/10

Good: Easy to install, no trailing leads, good bass sound, nice looking speakers & player.

Bad: Lack of options to vary the sound.

Comment: Overall this is just the type of system I was looking for as I didn't want to fit speaker wires all around the room. It's a nice looking cd player, plenty of functions for various external inputs. The only problem I've had is this that when playing some DVD's, I have had to switch to Stereo mode instead of multi-channel because some sounds just don't get through! For example on all of my James Bond movies you can barely hear the vocals in the intro themes. Sound that come to you from the left & right are well defined but the 'disappear' somewher in the middle! There must be a reason and maybe a solution but switching to Stereo is the only one I've found which, of course in not as good as having multi-channel.

Good: front speaker quality and clarity, overall build, replaceable sub

Bad: stock sub is lower quality and lighter that front speakers

Comment: i love this dvd system, some little drawbacks are not enough to put a downer on this system, the sub is not too clever, but i soon replaced the sub with a more expensive 4ohm alternative, YES THE SUB IS REPLACEABLE!! THE ACTUAL CONNECTOR CLIPS OPEN SO YOU CAN EXCHANGE THE SUBWOOFER GUYS! once you have a nice new quality ( not RMS hogging ) subwoofer in place were talking a 250watts max beauty, then the bass can come across clean, clear and refined. ok it shouldnt have to be replaced but come on guys the sub is clearly the cheapest component in the set up and is upgradeable, why claim the system sucks because of it.

yes you cant mess with the EQ but have you not seen the philips moto simpler is better (or is that panasonics moto?? who cares!! they are right, the system sounds its best left alone.

ok you cant adjust bass level, yes this is a slight downer but again...a nice sub in place works wonders, you wont want it adjusting. the actual front speakers are very nice, they bounce away with suprising clarity and very nice treble extension. this is not a 5.1 surround system and it does not try to be, but it does what it says on the box, it adds very nice subtle surround effects and is powerful to boot!

overall its a nice system and the sub out being 4ohm is open to a nice selection of subwoofers with varying power handling and quality. again yes the subwoofer should not have to be replaced and in all honesty it isnt that bad, but for those that like a bit of rumble and quality it holds back a bit and can rattle, invest in a nice not too expensive subwoofer and this system rivals systems £££'s more, there are reviews here that are abysmal because of freek occurances, if these things were common philips would not be putting them on sale they are not stupid. ive owned mine 6 months now, replaced the sub after a month with a nice 10inch long throw 250watt max beauty (pricey but yummm) well worth the buy if you know what to expect with the sub, its good but when replaced is not a worry.

Good: Nothing

Bad: Won't play DVD's

Comment: See other reviews of this product as this is a familiar problem. Machine says NO DISC and refuses to play any DVD's - plays CD's wonderfully - but maybe I have a stereo for that!!
Even after taking Philips advice and downloading the Firmware Upgrade to fix this problem it only works once and yet again NO DISC! Philips are incredibly unhelpful about this as there is no more they can do!! After checking other review forums am not convinced a replacement will solve this.

Good: Great sound (worked 2 days only!)

Bad: Remote control is a MAJOR failure

Comment: A disaster of epic proportions.

Remote control and programming issues make the unit virtually unusable! Philips knows about it for MONTHS and keep selling it.

This is definitely the WORST experience I've ever had with a home cinema product.
