Review:
I have owned and been frustrated with a Navman ICN650 since 2004 but was unable to get maps for the USA/Canada because Navman no longer support the ICN's so being able to borrow a TomTom 620 for my holiday in Canada was a treat. The 920 has a similar logic and performed well having European and American mapping, the vocal instructions were clear but sometimes the instructions tumbled over each other if the road name was long or the road name was "un-English" causing us much amusement. Sunlight can cause the screen to be difficult to read but mounting in the mirrors shade was a solution, the graphics are beginning to look a bit dated but the information for points of interest is good also there is a slight positional delay on screen so it pays to keep an eye on the screen when negotiating small street turns or you end up in the wrong street. The window mounting takes a little getting used to but with a little practice and care I could put the mount in the right place and attitude to present the TomTom screen correctly because adjusting with the unit in place is not easy especially if the windscreen is at a distance to the driver. The remote control not having any button identifiers on it is not user friendly. The mapping is very good have minor roads, tracks for off-roading, forestry roads and 4x4 only tracks. In the towns and cities the mapping is also very comprehensive but browsing with the touch sensitive screen can be frustrating as it doesn’t always do what your stroke or tap was hoping it would do. I have to say it was a very humorous aid to our holiday.
Overall I can recommend the TomTom as a very good unit.
