Typical price: £140
What is it: Stylish sat-nav with a touch-sensitive widescreen display
What we think: It offers excellent hi-res maps plus an excellent search but the price of extras adds up

"Perfect for me"
What I like:
Works well (eventually), neat search feature, can customise.
What I don't like:
Problems out of the box, updating not easy.
Review:
Got one of these in the Halfords sale. Out of the box it worked OK for a while, then I got the loss of voice problem and some other glitches. On the Route66 website, there are lots of updates for the software, GPS firmware and maps. However, to get them you need to install Microsoft ActiveSync (XP) or Windows Mobile Device Center (Vista) on your PC. It is also handy to have an SD card slot on your PC. Suffice to say, having jumped through many, many hoops and spent evenings downloading and updating various bits and pieces, I now have a fully functioning Route66 satnav. However, most people won't bother doing this and will take it back to the shop and get a TomTom instead. If you like a challenge and can get a Route66 at a reduced price (ie cheaper than a tomtom one), it is worth it.
