"Does what it says on the box"
What I like:
Excellent screen, price, ease of use
What I don't like:
No usb cable
Review:
I've had my 250W for a few months now and it has a usb connector at the back (although no usb cable is with the unit ). I used my mp3 usb cable and it syncs in with the Garmin website updating maps / software optional speed cam alert updates without problems. THe USB cable will even trickle charge the unit from a powered USB port , which is a nice bonus considering its not even advertised it can do this function. ( so note to the editor your review is slightly misleading when it says it has no usb port / cannot update software)
But back to the unit itself , the quality of the widescreen is excellent, and the touchscreen facility making it a pleasure , even for a complete novice to use without fear. The coating on the screen also gives a 'smudgefree" effect so your not having to costantly clean it due to finger imprints .
Starting up takes a few minutes to lock on and this is its only real downfall , you may have difficulty in locking on to a reception indoors , but in the car with a clear line of sight I've not had any difficulties with the reception.
Mapping and guidance is good as you'd expect from Garmin , and has already proven it's worth when i've missed a few turn in unfamiliar areas ( my own fault not the units ! ) and its had to recalculate new directions , which it did quickly , promptly and efficently.
It may lack the hi tech features of more expensive units , such as bluetooth but it does have a few nice extras such as currency convertor , calculator , photo viewer , places of interests and can automaitcally locate useful places such as the neareast bank ATM's , Accident and Emergency units at hospitals , petrol stations, hotel's restuarants etc etc . It also has a Card slot if you want to add photos , put new maps on it.
Overall this is a great unit for either a novice or someone just want's an affordable Sat Nav that works , THe widescreen really makes a difference for viewing ( well worth paying the extra £20 or so) and its so simple to use even my brother in law who's a complete technophobe , after using my 250W was impressed so much he wants one for his Christmas !
Pricing , you can pick this up for around £20 cheaper than the price advertised here or if you're just use the UK/ Ireland mapping you can get an even better deal on the 200W , which is exactly the same unit apart from the onboard map.
